I fly about once a year; and don't particularly
like it, but I tolerate it for the most part fairly well.

But, DAMN, I'm starting to get nervous...I fly from STL to San Francisco on American Airlines in a month!

:scared:

2. You'll be fine. Just keep reminding yourself:
On any given day, more than 87,000 flights are in the skies in the United States. Only one-third are commercial carriers, like American, United or Southwest.

And how many times does something go wrong? Think of the odds!

And if you want to check the frequency yourself, here's the daily database:

3. Incidents like that happen
pretty much every single day. Somewhere a plane aborts a landing or a take-off or something else a little hinky happens. They are almost never reported, except when it's a slow news day or some other airline incident has recently occurred.

I'd always been convinced of the safety of airline travel. Some years back (before 9/11 even) I was in a hotel overlooking the St. Louis airport, and my room was on the airport side. For hours and hours every day I watched planes take off and land, totally without incident, and that was one airport for only about two or three days. Car travel should only be so safe.

4. It's still a lot safer than the drive to the airport.
I fly every day. :D

5. You are all right..logically I know
I guess thats why they define phobias as an irrational fear.

I'll make, if I don't you won't hear from me again. ;-)

Thanks for the support.
