Across America, economic woes are mounting
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/46321.html

As politicians and policymakers in Washington struggle to control the damage from the housing crisis, the banks' credit crunch, $4 a gallon gasoline, rising food prices and mounting unemployment, McClatchy newspapers from North Carolina to California reported Sunday that the bad economic news is beginning to bite in their areas.

The Sacramento Bee reports that although the numbers say the economy is still growing, residents there are starting to tighten their belts. "I feel like I'm struggling," Sarah Joyal, a nurse who makes $100,000 a year, told the Bee. Farther south in California's Central Valley, the Modesto Bee reported that foreclosures are leaving more people there living in limbo.

In America's heartland, rising fuel costs are putting trucking firms in Kansas out of business, reports the Wichita Eagle, and more people are chasing fewer jobs at employment centers around Kansas City, according to The Kansas City Star.

1. It's really funny
There are news stories about how to tighten your belt, like buying store brands, not buying processed foods, staying home to cook, etc. I have always done these things and I am still hurting. I am not sure where else I can cut down on.

8. I started going to a food pantry while I was unemployed
and now that I am employed I'm still going. And I've joined a club to buy food in bulk. All my expenses are going up but my salary did not, so I feel like this is the only thing I can control.

12. I was thinking the *exact* same thing as I was grocery shopping yesterday
Many of the things you are supposed to do to cut costs are the things I have been doing to get by for years. Now that the economy is taking a dump, I'm hoping I can keep my head above water. :pals:

The blessings I am counting are that I have no credit card debt, my car is almost paid off and my husband was offered a better job (came at a great time, huh?). Let's hope with good policies from our Dem Congress we can turn this around quickly!

4. Alert Phil Gramm!
Let the economic adviser to the McThuselah campaign tell these people they're a bunch of whiners. That should set things to right.

5. Its a DEPRESSION Stupid
Should be a campaign slogan.

Can't believe Gramm says its a "mental recession" just shows how out of touch these dirt bags are with the middle/working class.

Before you slam me and say I don't know what I'm talking about -

1st we have more foreclosures now then they had during the Great Depression
2nd SSI / Welfare were created to prevent people from suffering as severly as they did during the first Great Depression. The current state of the country just proves those programs works just as they were designed to do.
3rd OUR ECONOMY has been the ReFi Economy for the last 7 years as Bush and his cronies exported the last remaining industries out of the country. The MAJORITY of money being circulated in our economy has been from all the Bad Loans Wall St. Manufactured

Since the value of Homes has de-valued it is a DEPRESSION

7. But, the media continues..
to try to play the game of "Are we in a recession yet" but now as I watch them you can see in their eyes that they know it is a "Depression" and they really believe that it is psychological and if everyone tries to pretend that they don't know what they really know, things will get better.Nothing will get done if McCain is the next president we are through..

9. If you devalue your products - Its a Depression
The products was our homes and home loans

How do you think I felt when I lost 40% of the value of my home because some dishonest lenders wanted to rip off all the venture capitol investors - (thanks deregulation/free market crap)

The best is yet to come -

Remember all those small businesses Bush claimed he created

With the current price of Gas (thanks to McSame for introducing the Enron LoopHole legislation in 2001) will they are failing now because no one is spending money - it all went into the gas tank. They ReFi-ed their homes and cashed in their 401K to finance the business, so now they are COMPLETELY wiped out.

I remember listening to a couple in of them in 2003 licking their chops anticipating just how well they will be doing in just a few short years

11. Totally ironic that one of the sources is the Modesto Bee
They're moving most of the operation out of Modesto to Sacramento in order to save money.
