I haven't been able to stomach watching a State of the Union speech for nearly 8 years...
and I love the tradition and the pagentry of the ocassion. But seeing Bush presented to congress turned my stomach when I tried tuning in that first year (2001) and so I never looked at one again, instead just read what he had to say. But now when I close my eyes and I imagine Barack Obama as president with a House of Representatives with several more Dems and the Senate with nearly 60 Democratic votes and I see the Door keeper open that door and announce, "Madam Speaker, The President of the United States!" and see Barack Obama confidently striding down the aile with the cheers that will accompany this young, dynamic president and the big smile on his face as he greets lawmakers on both sides. I believe I will see many members in the audience, particularly African-American members with tears of joy running down their cheeks, but I will see this reaction from many other members too. Why? because we will have a real president again. I just can't wait.

1. I haven't watched them either! I used to always watch them, even when
I didn't agree with everything I heard, but I think it's Shrub's arrogance that always shows which makes it impossible for be to even watch him on TV with the sound muted! McNuts isn't much better, if at all! He's a terrible speaker, and aside from what he says, he doesn't use inflection properly, and always sounds like a fake!

3. Only 8 years?
I haven't been able to sit through one my entire life or any other politician's speech for that matter. I don't know any other profession except lawyers (and most politicians are lawyers) that likes to hear themselves speak so much. They take 5 minutes to say what a normal person would say in 30 seconds and even then they ususally say what you want to hear instead of what they mean.

4. I'm really sick of people who think a politician is something
of a hero. They are all so full of shit and full of themselves.

Their job is to work for the people not to grandstand with some prepared speech spouting BS. All the promises that they know they can't keep.
