The Five Key Issues On Which Democratic and GOP Leadership Always Agree
1) Drug War
2) Military Funding
2) Domestic National Security/ Police Power
3) Israel and Middle Eastern Affairs
5) Corporate Financing of Political Campaigns

You will never see a majority of either party
opposing the status quo as manifested
in these five key national policies. The
Democratic Party will, however, trot out the occasional
senator or representative who will talk of progressive change, but never a majority. And, there may be one or two who will introduce progressive bills, but never
a majority to turn them into law.

Have we progressives ever had a voice in our
party? And can we ever change our party to
effect real progress in our nation?

1. Our voices are
stifled, ridiculed, and patronized. The only way to ever have a voice within the party, imo, is to never vote for a candidate who will not BE that voice. Be that voice consistently, and most importantly, when it counts on issues.

...our Congress and The White House, that a rescinding
of the drug war would have gone a long way toward destroying fascism in our nation. It would still have the effect of eliminating bad policing and the destruction of people's lives to some degree. But without the repeal of the Patriot Act and the newest FISA provisions, the absence of the drug war may not be felt the way it once would have.

7. #5 leads into the bigger #6
#6 - the free market economic system is sacrosanct.

Have you noticed that no-one dares even talk about the flaws in that system anymore?

8. 6. the "official" story of 9-11 is what actually happened . . .
or at least that's what we want the populace to believe really happened . . .

9. If tht official story really was true
Then the Powers that Be would have instituted real security measures at the airports, rather than tasering people in anaphylactic shock, hassling people in wheelchairs, and making all of us take off our shoes etc.

That is one thing that really sticks in my craw - if Nine/Eleven was a terrorist event, than why don't we have real security measures?

And every household should have enough doxycycline for each member in the event of anthrax attacks.

Unless they know that nothing has really occurred to our populace due to terrorism.

10. Kucinich had 2% of Democrats' vote, i.e., less than 1% of all voters.
In a democracy, the left (progressive?) part of the Democratic Party loses, even is it's a majority here on DU.

The voice of the progressives amounts to a tiny fringe of the electorate.
