Philly's Smerconish on pseudo-Philly's Tweety's show:
Let me tell you something you may not know:

Smerconish was hired by the Philly Inquirer to write a Sunday column. This is bad news but not the worst news. More on that in a minute. Smirk-o has to elevate himself ever so slightly to reflect his new 'status'. His relative ignorance is obvious and his horrendous radio show on 1210, our RW hate-filled radio
(which used to be a great station), is unlistenable.

The worse news is that Santorum, our former Senator-from-Hell, has also been hired by the Inquirer to write to, as the Philadelphis Weekly Newspaper wrote, the eight Philadelphians who voted for him. (Note how I annotate my references).

These hires are b/c our papers have been taken over by a RW crowd led by Brian Tierney, the local apologist for all things rethug AND moreover, headed the PR offensive for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia during its 'problematic' era, which is continuing.

2. I treat many of the staff...
they're not so pleased themselves.

Lots of resumes being written. There are some real hot stories floating around which I am not at liberty to repeat due to confidentiality issues, but let me just say that there is one pissed off staff there.

3. Rightwingers inserting themselves deeper into "mainstream"
Glenn Beck on TV, Smerconish on TV ...more and more of them with "columns".. It's an ongoing struggle with the truth.. all in the name pf "faux-balance"

Since when does "balance" mean that FACTS must be balanced with NON-facts?

I still don't get it :grr:

4. The story of the Philly "Inky"
is most frightening. It is a shell of its former self and most of the articles are AP based and most of the bureaus have been closed AND the great reporters have basically been shitcanned by making them separation offers which they can't refuse. Lots of stories floating about....there's bound to be a book someday.

7. They brought it back as a RW rag...
this loony who used to be the editor of the Main Line Times started a paper he calls "The Bulletin"...same type face.

In this rag, a guy like Krauthammer would be considered a McGovernite.

8. No way the same Bulletin I delivered in 1959
I was the ONLY West Chester carrier of the evening edition peddlin' from one end of town to the other.

6. Don't buy the darn thing, and tell all your friends not to buy it either.
We've all seen MANY papers disappear in recent years, and the Inquirer can just join them! I don't live in Philly, but I'll be sure I never visit their web site so they can't show advertisers many hits.
