Weekend Edition Saturday, August 2, 2008 · For the first time since his indictment, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) has spoken publicly about his legal situation — and how it affects his re-election campaign this year.

The longest-serving Republican in the Senate tells NPR that he's, "not worried" about the charges against him and that prosecutors "have a right to come to their conclusion. But I have a right to be presumed innocent just like anybody else."

==================

And, the mandatory federal jail terms like everybody else too? I'd be worried, Senator!!

2. He thinks he'll probably die of old age before
the whole business grinds through the courts and he's probably right about that.

He's also right about the presumption of innocence.

What he's not right about is the effect the charges will have on his re election campaign.

I can't imagine even Alaska would send this SOB back into office.

3. Stevens has already dodged the bribery charges, the fix is in.
He should be up on charges of accepting bribes, not failure to "report gifts."

He is on the fast track to go on the back burner of the Main Stream Media and then acquittal.

I intend to keep an eye on his case, but I suspect some legal technicality will be used to get him off. The Republican scum seem to just find was to get away with stealing.

4. False filing under penalty of perjury has a mandatory jailm sentence
and is likely the first set of charges to be brought because it forces his cooperation in the investigation, due essentially to the mandatory jail time.

Yes, the fix is in, and Sen. Stevens sure fixed himself but good!! :rofl: And his house too.
