Natural Gas Discover ON LAND in Louisiana -- 250 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas.

We used 23 trillion feet last year.

http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2008/jul/29/natural-gas-discovery-making-many-millionaires-in-/?news

I heard on the radio today, it could be as much as 500 trillion cubic feet when they fully size the field. That's one spot with 10-20 years of gas supply.

There have to be many more out there, and it's on land.

37. it's OK - I am worried about the impacts here
and it's a lot less nat. gas projected here than that story. I'm glad the NY Governor is slowing down the process a bit here to improve the environmental impact statement process.

But I also know our energy has to come from somewhere, preferably U.S. I also prefer cooking on gas stoves!

2. Ford use to make Crown Vics that ran on natural gas...
mainly for police cars and taxi cabs. Back in the late '90s. I don't know if they still do. If not, they need to fire that production line back up.

4. They're phasing out the Crown Vic in its entirety
I think they're going to make the last ones next year, or maybe in 2010.

5. Boone Pickens talks about this. I know we're supposed to hate him but what if
he's actually right? Sometimes we "Democrats" suspend facts in favor of idealistic principles. Which might explain why we can't seem to get rightful control of the government.
Just sayin'

8. He's heavily invested in this stuff...
T Boone is looking to get richer... fortunately this time around it is to the benefit of the nation, not through any real concern about it of his own.

29. We "Democrats" know to look close enough to see that Pickens is blowing smoke.
He wants the public to pay for the infrastructure for the wind & solar farms. The people would have to give welfare to Pickens and his investors in the form of power lines and right of way for same. Sorry, no deal.

7. Double-edged sword. Natural gas burns cleanER, not cleanLY . . .
While I'm the first to admit we are a loooooong way away from being ready to begin phasing out fossil fuels, big strikes like this tend to let people off the hook of doing anything.

Color me ambivalent.

17. It's a good transition fuel.
That's my argument for "clean coal". No, it's not completely "clean", but it's a damn sight better than what we've been doing and we have a lot of it. It has the potential to end our dependence on foreign energy...but as a stepping stone when viewed in a larger context.

But on another matter, I've just spent the last 30 seconds trying to get that damn fruit fly (or whatever) off my screen. It was waaay too convincing.

13. Well sure, but.
You'd better replace them with something or the world economy will grind to a complete halt. I think a lot of people tend to underestimate the effects of simply not having enough energy available, regardless of source.

16. NG is better than liquid petrol, imo. Don't we need the
NG to make fertilizers, etc. Let's get off the fossil fuels but use the NG for food production. Does anyone know if turning NG into fertilizer releases CO2?

19. My husband and his family have land in Plain Dealing
I'm not sure what this means for us. Recently we were contacted by a pipeline company Midcontinent Express Pipeline and they wanted to lease easement rights for a pipeline going through. It was for such a small amount of money, I didn't think it was worth the trouble to sign an affidavit of heirship for our son (my husband has passed away) I cant figure out of this is part of the same deal or if they're talking about two different things. I have no idea who to contact on this as the guy from the pipline company is telling us he can only speak to the easement rights.

20. My SO has worked for a few of these pipeline companies....
...he's a surveyor and says it all depends on the land owners...the companies will pay some people 100.00 a foot..then again pay some only a dollar a foot...whatever they can get away with...some people will just say NO so they'll just move the pipelines accordingly.

Not sure how much of the cost is involved in supply costs or delivery costs. I think I'll have to figure that out if the data is available.

26. we had been considering a geothermal system for our house...
because of what might happen with nat gas prices but we were trying to decide if it would be worth the expense...if this find means that prices would be fairly stabilized for the foreseeable future, we'll probably stand pat.

28. So, it will be mapped, tapped, sealed and ignored.
Because of the EPA and the liberals and the treehuggers and and and and and...

That's why we must open ANWAR to leasing. (And the leases, once purchased, will then be ignored because of the EPA and the liberals and the treehuggers and and and and and...)
