McCain says: Go see your doctor...
"If you ever have any slight discoloration please go to your dermatologist or your doctor and get it checked out as soon as possible," he said.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080728/ap_on_el_pr/mccain

"...McCain was previously treated for melanoma..." (by a top skin cancer expert)

http://www.webmd.com/melanoma-skin-cancer/news/20080728/mccain-has-growth-removed-from-his-face

"As I do every three months, I visited my dermatologist this morning," the Arizona senator said.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/uselection2008/johnmccain/2467000/John-McCain-has-mole-removed-from-face.html

McCain underwent the examination at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aeAySpQnSkak&refer=us

So McCain is seen every three months, at the Mayo Clinic, by top doctors, and advises us see a doctor as soon as possible for preventative treatment that may or may not turn out as anything serious...

...all the while incurring a bill regardless.

Must be nice. I haven't received a 'preventative' or 'physical' examination in over a decade Mr. McCain. 55-60 million of us cannot afford even the most BASIC level of health care, which in most cases STILL ends up in hefty deductibles and copays.

Go fu*k yourself and your four (or more?) visits to the Mayo Clinic a year!

1. my thought exactly
after several years we finally have health coverage. when i go for my physical in september i'm going to request an inspection of my skin, as i have all the conditions making me a prime candidate for skin cancer.

i hate when people who just have no clue about the reality for most people say shit like that. someone should ask him if he wants to foot the bill.

3. when my husband and i tried to do this we were basically told to fuck off
over and over again you're told if you have large moles to get 'em looked at by a dermatologist, we waited weeks to see the one on our insurance plan and then she just glanced at them and wouldn't even take one biopsy

one of my husband's moles is over 1/2 inch in diameter!

derms are very over busy and are not interested in insurance or medicare patiencs who pay the minimum, they do not care about melanoma, they are making money off the cosmetic patients who pay cash

mccain is an ass but so is every media reporter who repeats this bullshit about showing your derm any discolored moles, derms simply don't wanna be bothered

the money comes from treating wrinkles not skin cancer

11. I had a mole that I had had since childhood that suddenly grew to about 1/2 inch
I went to my internist who sent me to a general surgeon at my regular clinic. As the mole was in a spot normally covered I wasn't worried about scarring. As my internist had set the appointment up, she was able to take it off the first time I saw her (as well as another one that we both knew was more cosmetic). The mole turned out to be okay - but I was glad to be rid of it. And, actually the surgeon told me as soon as she saw it that she was 99% sure that it was nothing just from the look of it but it never hurts to be careful with one that has changed.

If the dermatologist won't do anything, see if you can go this route. If you're not worred about scarring (my scar isn't bad, but I wouldn't want it on my face) a general surgeron may be able to do the job.

21. my husband is paid by the hour, in other words, once blown off by one doc he won't try again
he isn't worried about scarring or worried at all, the huge mole is on his back and i'm the one who can see it and who is worried

the problem is that once blown off by one doctor he can't really afford to keep trying

24. I put aloe vera on things like that
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16314733

I grow aloe vera plants, and just cut some off, and squeeze the juice out onto the spot. It really seems to help. I am not claiming cures but there is some research on aloe and melanoma. If he won't go back to the doctor I would at least try that.

4. You left out FREE visits to the Mayo.
His insurance in the Senate probably doesn't even have a co-pay or deductible.

I've been without insurance for 2 years now. It's awesome. There's nothing more exhilarating thank playing no-check recreational hockey and thinking, this is great exercise, but I have to be extra careful since I can't afford to go to the ER if I get hurt.

9. Even more entertaining when you consider that many MInnesotans
can't go to Mayo because it's not "in network" for them. I live maybe 90 minutes from the Mayo Clinic and I've had insurance that wouldn't let me go there (though I've been lucky and never had any reason to think I needed to go there.)

6. That was just obscene
Earlier this evening we had to take my stepdaughter to the airport. On the way there my husband asked me to fill him in on today's news. When I told him about McCain's advice several other people on the Metro looked at me like I had lost my mind. Even my own husband asked me if I was joking. When I said "No. Seriously that was his advice" several heads shook in unison and a brief conversation about how out of touch McCain is and how absurd it was that he thought that the average person could afford to that ensued on our section of the train.

7. I see my doctor regularly--almost every day, in fact
Of course, it helps that I work for her....

BTW, in her clinic, we stress wellness and how to keep from getting sick. Nowadays, I recommend just about anyone with light skin be sure to either cover up or wear sunblock when outside.

13. I always feel so unprivileged
when I hear the go see your doctor line. As well when you hear lines such as
"refer to your lawyer". or how about some issue of faith, "talk to your priest".
Even when Microsoft crashes in some way, "See your Network Administrator", lol.
I don't have any of these saviors. Feel Like such a loser!

15. Republican equivalent of "let them eat cake!"
Really, McCain's reply should become as famous as Marie Antoinette's. McCain saying "go see your doctor", is symptomatic of a mind-set that no sane American could proudly be voting for if it became a big issue in the media.

17. Seriously...
I think that a poignant protest to McCain and the Republican health care system would be to send photocopies of medical bills marked "In lieu of campaign contribution."

23. Well, gee, John, I would, but I can't get an appointment with my
doctor because the business office says I cannot come back until I pay the $200 I owe them!!!!

And since I don't have a job, well, if something bad DID happen to me, too bad, so sad.

Guess my life isn't worth much, eh?

:grr:
