http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/69588<snip>The United States has responded angrily to the possibility of Russia placing missiles so close to its homeland, but there is no reason to believe that these missiles would ever be pointed at the US. And Cuba is about the same distance from the American mainland as Poland is to Russia. But if they are both for peaceful purposes, why worry?
Like the missiles that the US plan to install in Poland (together with a radar station in the Czech Republic), which are designed to protect the United States and Europe from any nuclear attack from Iran (or countries with similar intentions), the Russian shield can do the same (which is good to know).
Although Iran has no nuclear weapons at the moment, and according to US intelligence have no plans to do so in the near future, who can say what countries may pose a threat in the years to come? A Russian shield could be of great benefit to the US if Jamaica or the Seychelles (for example) should be added to the "axis of evil" list and decide to produce nuclear weapons.
There is certainly no reason to fear a few extra Russian missiles appearing in the world, even those on America´s doorstep. Russia has no hostile intentions, and the only time this situation might change is if the US considered invading Russia for their oil and gas, or attempted to make a "regime change" there. But hopefully, the United States has no such ambitions, so this would never be put to the test.
