Suspect arrested for armed robbery spree Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 08:15 PM by mnhtnbb
I posted the story about my son and a friend being robbed by a man with a sawed off shotgun
on Sunday--in broad daylight.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=3657465&mesg_id=3657465

The suspect was arrested today and my son's friend made a positive ID.
My son, who has a vision impairment, was unable to make a positive ID from a photo array. I imagine
if he'd been presented with a real line-up, and the opportunity to have the suspect speak, he could
have made a positive ID. My son's a musician, and he's quite attuned to sound.

This guy is responsible for an incredible crime spree in the last few days. I spoke to a CHPD investigator this afternoon and he told me that with all the charges he's facing between Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham, he's probably looking at 25 years if he's convicted. Fine by me.

Who knows when he would have decided to use that sawed off shotgun?

1. I am glad your son and his friend are safe.
For criminals like this who have no problem wielding weapons, it's always just a matter of time before they escalate into murder.

2. Thanks. Chapel Hill is still reeling from Eve Carson's murder.
She was the UNC-Chapel Hill student body president abducted from her house in downtown Chapel Hill
in the middle of the night--driven to an ATM to get cash--and then murdered not 50 yards from our house.

3. Some people just need to be taken off the street
I hope the judge takes the illegally modified weapon into consideration and sets bail accordingly. That means keeping him off the street.

4. No shit. I'd have thought each count of armed robbery would get him 25+.
The Republics have been in charge too long when the only way to earn a decent sentence is to get caught with weed.

I hate the fact that a young woman was murdered, but it would be nice if this POS was tied to that crime, prosecuted and locked away forever.

7. There are two suspects in jail awaiting the trial on the abduction and murder of Eve Carson.

6. I was told by the investigator that it could be 12-18 months before
he's brought to trial. The prosecutors in all three counties--Orange, Durham, and Wake--would
get together to look at all charges and coordinate the trial.

His bail is set at $325,000. Presumably, he won't be able to make that bail and he'll sit in jail
until trial.

5. Saw this on WRAL.
what a piece of shit. At least he did not kill any one.

Thankfully your son is ok.

He is really screwed on the shotgun. He will do 10 years on that one charge.
