Sen. Schumer has buyers remorse with AG Mukasey

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/23/washington/23mukasey....

WASHINGTON When President Bush tapped Michael B. Mukasey to lead the scandal-plagued Justice Department nine months ago, Senator Charles E. Schumer could not say enough good things about his fellow New Yorker. Mr. Schumer ran out of time in ticking off Mr. Mukaseys accomplishments at his Senate hearing, and the senators vote of support ensured his confirmation as attorney general.

Yet at a hearing this month, face to face with his pick for attorney general, Mr. Schumer, a Democrat, did not hide his disappointment in what he saw as Mr. Mukaseys reluctance to move more aggressively in investigating accusations that the Justice Department had brought politically inspired prosecutions against Democratic politicians.

Mr. Schumer was still fuming a short time later as he went to the Senate floor for a vote. That was terrible, Mr. Schumer told a colleague privately in assessing Mr. Mukaseys performance, an official privy to the conversation said.

The shift in political support underscores the problems facing Mr. Mukasey, a retired federal judge, as he works to restore the credibility of a department that was tainted under his predecessor, Alberto R. Gonzales. So far, the results appear mixed.

1. If Mukasey Gets More Aggressive He'd Be Fired
And the Congressional "Dems" wouldn't do a damned thing to stop it. Like Robert Gates, Mukasey's probably doing the best he can.

2. New York senators
Have the street smarts of Gomer and Goober Pyle.

First the Iraq War Resolution, now Mukasey. I wonder if they would be interested in some shares of the Brooklyn Bridge I have for sale? :dunce:

15. Schumer also led opposition against Kerry and Kennedy's filibuster of Alito.
He and Clinton argued in a closed, PRIVATE senate caucus that Dems should NOT support a filibuster. After thousand of phonecalls to her office, Clinton then put on a PUBLIC face that sided with filibuster, though she wouldn't argue for it on any of the broadcast news shows.

I am SICK of that wing of the Dem party.

they are "respectfully asking" questions and getting BS in return...

"Thank you Mr. Chairman, that's all the questions I have. My time has expired..."

This process is completely useless.

At least Watt and Wexler are pissed.

He got exactly what he wanted when he voted for Mukasey. His phony remorse is nothing more than a dog and pony show.

13. "...the results appear mixed?" Mukasey is a total shill and may wind up out-doing Gonzo.
In this administration, incompetence (both innate and deliberate) is always rewarded.

Either Chuck is the stupidest one of all or he is a tool of the fascist regime. We know which DiFi is, both.

31. We all knew Mukasey was lying at his confirmation hearing. How could Chuck not know???
I knew at the time Chuck went to bat for Mukasey we would all regret it ..... When are Democrats going to quit trying to kick the football Lucy is holding, and send Lucy packing?

It is becoming obvious that so much feigned outrage over being 'fooled' by these 'wolves in sheep clothing' is not legitimate.
