MSNBC's new mission is clear -- OBAMA MUST ADMIT THE SURGE WORKED!
That's all that is will "save" him now. He has no cred unless he just bucks up and admits that he was wrong, and that butterflies and unicorns are frolicking in flower-filled meadows, along with smiling Iraqi women, children and civilians. Bush, and by extension the talking appendage that is McCain growing from his side, demonstrated brilliant foresight and resolve and Barack had better give in and admit it or...or...or we'll all suddenly decide that McCain actually isn't more sleep inducing than an Ambien & Whiskey cocktail. We'll rally around Ol' John and celebrate four more years of BushCo policies unless Barack fesses up, takes his lumps and admits his utter wrong-ness.

Dear lord.

:eyes:

Could these people be any more transparent in their love for McCain?

4. Before I turned the channel, Joe Scarborough was about to pop a vein
in his neck about it. "EVERYONE KNOWS the surge worked! Why won't Obama admit it!1!" said he. Dipshit.

5. I hate that term "surge"
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 07:59 AM by alyce douglas
it is an escalation. Damn stupid slogans just like this criminal administration.

maybe the "surge" worked but you must factor in other developments such as Sadr calling down his army.

13. Sadr called down his army...
'cause he is getting paid off by the US. The payments stop, the violence starts again.

6. Same thing on CNN this AM too
And not one word that one of the big reasons is that we are paying off
Sunnis not to shoot us or each other. How about getting out so we don't have to
pay anybody?

9. It is the meme that is being pushed
CNN this AM ..... Observations on Steph Miller & Obama

Stephanie Miller kicked ass .... (very rough quotes)

When the host asked her, "If Obama had to do it over again would he support the surge."

Miller, "That is a hypothetical question."

Host, "No it is not."

Miller, "Yes it is."

Host is now pissed ..... Miller laughs and says something about the whole war is a mistake anyway
and Obama has been proven right.

8. The only "media" that I've seen come even close to
telling the truth about the so-called "surge" is BBCA. And even they wont go as far as saying that after killing 1.2 million and 4 million refuges, there are fewer people to kill. Or the fact that we are paying them NOT to fight.

10. Predicting "the most contentious news conference EVER!" for Obama today... evidently the
WAAAmbulance needs to be called for the Corporate Press, who have been "disallowed access to the candidate" and they've "had time to think of lots of hard questions" for him today - IOW, "they're not going to let him off the hook!"

They are absolutely disgusting.

11. yeah. Morning Joe was insane!
Edited on Tue Jul-22-08 08:17 AM by ErinBerin84
Heh, Peter Bergen from CNN for his credit has tried to "explain" the surge to Anderson, Gergen, and Borgen a couple of times, and last night he said "If other factors had not been in place, the surge alone would not have led to a decrease in violence...it would have led to an increase in violence", and everyone else at CNN just sticks fingers and their ears and says "LA LA LA, THE SURGE HAS WORKED, I CAN'T HEAR YOOUUUUU!"

The contempt emanating from the Morning Joe set was palpable. "All of the good that has come from this trip is not because of him, he has been lucky and gotten a free ride! They need to PIN HIM DOWN at the press conference this morning!"

The Titanic will refrain from sinking now? The "surge" worked and the passengers moved up one deck.

14. Well, then they can explain this...
Military deaths by period

Period 6:Feb 2007 to today Average of casualties per day 2.05 (The "Surge")

Period 5: Dec 15 2005 to Jan 31, 2007 Average of casualties per day 2.39 (Dec 15 day after Iraqi gen elect)

Period 4:Jan 31, 2005 to Dec 14, 2005 Average of casualties per day 2.35 (Jan 31 day after Iraqi elect)

Period 3:June 29, 2004 to Jan 30, 2005 Average of casualties per day 2.93 (Sov to elections)

Period 2: May 2, 2003 to June 28, 2004 Average of casualties per day 1.9 (June 28 day after sovereignty to Iraq)

Period 1: March 20, 2003 to May 1, 2003 Average of casualties per day 4.02 (beginning to end of major combat)

From http://icasualties.org/oif /

I don't see any great differences with the exception of Period 2, when the Iraqis probably thought we were done with our misadventure and getting the hell out of their country soon.

18. Good question, it "worked" on what level?
We can't leave Iraq if the war is going bad. We can't leave if it's going good, because it might go bad.

16. They Dig Themselves Deeper Every Day...Time For Some New Blood
I scanned around some of the "coverage" yesterday and it was downright embarassing. What struck me was how many of these asshats they had on have been so wrong for so long and they still get face time. What makes a loser like David Frum an "expert" to speak on anything or you see the usual stenographers who are clueless as to how silly they look and what little credibility (left and right) they have.

This is all a beltway party game these days...no touch with what's going on in the "flyover" territories. The only time they come out is when they have something to "prove"...find a couple of suckers to interview who prove their point and they move on. I sure hope this trip drives these asshats nuts and then surges Senator Obama's polling numbers.

The charade is obvious...and the more the corporate media attempts to cover up for Gramps, the more he fucks up. Gramps all but assumes they'll always bail him out and the list of gaffes grow.

17. Has anybody thought to ask the Iraqis how they like their 'freedom' and 'independence' now that the
'surge' has been so successful? Seems to me that living under the shadow of the US military isn't exactly the same thing. Yes, maybe the sectarian incidents and attacks on Americans are down greatly, but is there really a country called Iraq or just an American colony under military guard?

19. The "surge" is a couple of years late anyway, isn't it?
It's McCain's to explain, not Obama's.

If McCain is so right, where was his tremendous war-making expertise at the beginning of this war he was all for? Why didn't he insist on his surge then? You know, like when we went in without enough troops in the first place, and screwed it up as much as possible for years now?

Did he have a brain-freeze then, or was that on purpose?

But then, if the media talking heads didn't all think in a herd, pooling themselves to come up with one question among them at a time, someone might've thought to ask that.

20. Two year surge?
it was an escalation for crissakes. If we hadn't "broken it" in the first place, there would be no reason to fix it. The surge was to allow the Iraqi government breathing room in order to meet the benchmarks set out for it...have these benchmarks been met? If they have not, the surge is not a success.
