rampaging inflation, a tanking dollar, and the loss of freedom and liberty in the land where Gestapo-like tactics are being selectively employed. :D

13. You won't believe this but it's true
I actually met one who is against the war and unemployed but since Bush is against abortion and supports a constitutional amendment banning gay marriages, that's why he voted for him twice and would vote again if he could.

21. Because the MSM, McCain's base, keeps telling people he is
a moderate and an independent maverick, and because they carefully bury any reports on his gaffes and scandals.

Most people are not spending large chunks of their day digging up info on the net. They accept the narrative the MSM provides, and that narrative strongly favors McCain, while presenting Obama in a way that makes the New Yorker cover look like realistic reporting.

We need to make sure Obama is financed well enough to saturate media markets with informative commercials, since the MSM is essentially a 24/7 free commercial for McCain and against Obama. It will take a fortune to counter the sort of "terrorist fist jab"/"Where's your flag pin?"/"Why won't you say the 'Pledge?'" nonsense the MSM will continue to feed the voting public for the rest of the campaign season.

14. This shows how good the Republicans are at campaigning.
Or maybe it reinforcecs the astounding stupidity of the American public. For a Republican president to be this unpopular and a Republican presidential candidate to STILL be tied in the polls with the Democratic candidate is very surprising. Or perhaps this shows how weak our party is.

19. And he's is very proud of that. He's 'spent his political capital'.
Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 11:18 AM by Marr
Remember when Bush said that? He would use whatever popularity he could achieve to push an agenda that (presumably) would be unpopular. I mean, otherwise-- he'd have been gaining political capital as he advanced his agenda, not "spending" it.

This is the political equivalent of dying when the bills come due.

22. Two strings short of a duelling banjo
You can easily spot people in the 20%. They break down into three groupings:

  • The obscenely rich
  • The talebangelicals
  • People who buy greetings cards saying "Happy Birthday Uncle Dad"

Note that the three groupings aren't mutually exclusive. TV Talebangelicals can be both obscenely rich (creaming off donations from the desperately poor) and two strings short of a duelling banjo.

The 20-percenters bring to mind the Mencken quote...

27. They're mostly Right-Wing Authoritarians
Edited on Mon Jul-21-08 02:33 PM by sofa king
These fools here.

And described by John Dean here: http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Video_50_year_study_says_conservatives_0711.html

"The lead researcher in this field told me, he said, "I look at the numbers of the United States and I see about 23% of the population who are pure right-wing authoritarian followers." They're not going to change. They're going to march over the cliff. The best thing to deal with them -- and they're growing, and they have a tremendous influence on Republican politics -- The best defense is understanding them, to realize what they are doing, how they're doing it and how they operate. Then it can be kept in perspective and they can be seen for what they are."

Once you start looking, you see 'em everywhere. Seventy-six percent of Americans believe the country is ready for an African-American President, and RWAs seem to be able to account for almost all of those who don't believe so.

RWAs are the quintessential fascists, the underpinning of every conservative oligarchy and neonazi movement since the 1920s. They're constantly manipulated by big business--witness Fox News, which makes no pretense of being honest, but rather works 24 hours a day to program the RWAs.

They are motivated by two things, primarily: fear, and uncertainty. They happily direct prejudice and violence against obvious out-groups, which in the United States means people of color, religious and ethnic minorities, and non-heterosexuals. Many of them seem highly motivated by homophobia, as they cannot tolerate sexual ambiguity within themselves, hence the success of the 2004 anti-gay marriage movement.

And yes, I am saying that many of you lurking Freepers are wannabe cocksuckers, but you're too afraid to try it. In a metaphorical sense, that's why you let Uncle Dick ass-rape you for so long--'cause deep down, you bastards like it like that.

The most fascinating thing about this particular poll is that it's the first I've ever seen which appears to get close to breaking the 23% barrier (the 21% in this poll is probably still within the margin of error). It would be nice to see the Bush Administration, after manipulating and frightening these poor, logic-challenged, small-minded people for seven years, show the way to change their perspective to something more useful. Perhaps the enormous weight of incompetence and criminal behavior has shown us a way--not a good or functional way, but possibly an insight into how to keep these poor people under the rock so that they can't damage our nation further.

Edit: I should add that a good number of RWAs appear to support whomever is President. Thus, should this election somehow not be stolen from us, we should see some truly interesting position-flips from some RWAs. It seems unlikely now, but I really believe Obama has a chance of pulling in a greater than 77% approval rating, which would be just as amazing as a plus-77% disapproval rating for this most embarrassing President.

38. It's Congress as well
http://www.gallup.com/poll/108856/Congressional-Approval-Hits-RecordLow-14.aspx
PRINCETON, NJ -- Congress' job approval rating has dropped five percentage points over the past month, from 19% in June to 14% in July, making the current reading the lowest congressional job approval rating in the 34-year Gallup Poll history of asking the question. The previous low was 18%, last reached in May.
The 75% currently disapproving of Congress is just shy of the record-high 78% in March 1992.

Nobody is listening to the people anymore. The political system is such garbage nowadays. It gets depressing! I truly feel the best way (the only way) to get politicians to listen to 'the people' again is to through term limits. Political office was not intended to be a life time career!

I would suggest 12 years in the House. (6 terms)
12 years in the Senate. (2 terms)
Before you get on the National stage you've more than likely served as Governor or in your State House and/or Senate. For argument's sake let's say that was another 10 years as a State Congressman and/or 8 years as Governor.
So now you've been in public office for 34-42 years. If you can't get elected President or get on his/her cabinet it's time to retire and find a new career!

Twenty percent of people think the sun revolves around the earth.

Twenty-seven percent of people believe they were reincarnated and were another person in a past life.

Twenty-seven percent of Americans believe we never landed on the moon.

Thirty percent of Americans believe aliens have visited earth via space vehicles from other civilizations (UFO's).

About twenty percent of people believe that dinosaurs and people lived together on the earth at the same time.

Twenty-eight percent of therapists believe that hypnosis can accurately recover memories of past lives.

Twenty percent of therapists believe in repressed abuse memories, including satanic ritual abuse.

Twenty-four percent of Americans believe AIDS is a punishment from God.

Nearly 20 percent of people believe Elvis may still be alive.

Twenty to forty percent of people believe in witchcraft and spells.

Twenty to forty percent of people believe in astrology and fortune-telling.

About forty percent of Americans believe in exorcisms and soul possession by Satan and his minions.
