McCain adviser responding to Maliki's support of Obama plan for withdrawal: "We're F**ked"
http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/07/almalikis_announcement_a_big_d.php

This could be one of those unexpected events that forever changes the way the world perceives an issue. Iraq's Prime Minister agrees with Obama, and there's no wiggle room or fudge factor. This puts John McCain in an extremely precarious spot: what's left to argue? to argue against Maliki would be to predicate that Iraqi sovereignty at this point means nothing. Obviously, our national interests aren't equivalent to Iraq's, but... Malik isn't listening to the generals on the ground...but the "hasn't been to Iraq" line doesn't work here.

So how will the McCain campaign respond?

(Via e-mail, a prominent Republican strategist who occasionally provides advice to the McCain campaign said, simply, "We're fucked." No response yet from the McCain campaign, although here's what McCain said the last time Maliki mentioned withdrawal: "Since we are succeeding, then I am convinced, as I have said before, we can withdraw and withdraw with honor, not according to a set timetable. And I’m confident that is what Prime Minister Maliki is talking about, since he has told me that for many meetings we’'ve had."

6. The facade is crumbling
Obama isn't fucking up, he's acquitting himself perfectly well, and folks around the world are quite comfortable with his stated positions and saying so. Even tonight on ABC News, one of the reporters said in his story that Obama's the odds-on favorite to be the next president. It was said without any fanfare, and certainly nobody followed up on the comment, but it was said so off-handedly that it sounded suspiciously like the new conventional wisdom.

Another four months until the election, and the talking chuckleheads may already be tired of pretending that there's any doubt as to the outcome in November.

9. I've said this all along. The Pubs know they have no chance, so they're
throwing McNuts to the lions. They're saving anyone they "THINK" might have a chance for 2012! In a way, I feel sad for McNuts. Although it's his own fault, he's let the Party use him and abuse him twice now. First in 2000, and now. I really do respect him for enduring the capture & torture during "Nam, and although I would never want him to be Prez, it's sad that he has to endure the result of the failure of his Party.

11. I wonder if Republicans feel like waving those ink-stained fingers now
like they did at the Chimp's State Of The Union speech when they celebrated the vote that the Iraqis made. Or have they forgotten all about Iraqi sovereignty by now? If someone showed up at a McCain rally and, instead of having a sign that said McCain=Bush they waved a finger with blue ink I wonder if they'd be kicked out of the rally.

12. Kick for a great idea!
Where's gramps going to be this coming week? No posters or signs, just a large turnout of people
at his speeches with blue fingers. It would be deafening.
