3. The EV-1 would have failed in the marketplace unless we had huge gasoline/energy taxes
There are only a small number of car buyers who would pay $30,000+ for a two seater car just for the sake of preventing local air pollution and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. I would expect that they would have sold under 100,000 per year.

Other small cars that failed in the market were the two seat Honda Insight hybrid and the four seat Toyota Echo. Buyers *don't want* small cars. Now they are buying them because they "have to".

4. wrong, wrong WRONG , propperup up myth by the oil industry
the EV-1's disappeared as soon as they were available, and had LONG lists of people who wanted them when they became available.
Every lease-er wanted to buy their car out right.
the Insight sold out, and had YEAR LONG WAIT LISTS TO BUY, those on the wait lest ended up buying the Prius because it was available, and the PRIUS HAS WAIT LISTS!

People are getting their normal ICE's converted to electric, people are buying the handful of electrics out there.
The electric commuter in the bay area died because it was under-advertised and a tad over priced - and people are willing to sacrifice and reduce to a two seater pizza car like the insight (89 MPG!!!) but not one seat (not for that price)

and yeah it'd be nice if teh government would subsidize ELECTRICS autos as opposed to GAS AND "hydrogen" autos!!!

Those fuel cell cars? christ their nearly as dirty as normal fuel because of the process required to GET the hydrogen FOR the fuel cell; - WHY ELSE do you think the big-3 (and by extension the OIL companies) support it so much!?

so yes, people ARE interested, AND WILLING TO SACRIFICE to get cleaner vehicles.

5. I'll bet that there were not enough EV-1 buyers to make it worth starting up real production
Which is a multi-billion dollar proposition for an automaker.

How long was the list? I would like a number.

6. We'll never know because they never hit the market
I would buy one, but I can't.

I have said this before, first car company that puts out a full plug-in for sale (not lease), at < 30K and gets 100 miles on a charge gets my 30K.

There are lots of reasons for me to get one. I am not concerned with the pollution side of it. I like the idea of not having to go to the gas station. That I can charge it at home with wind power, solar power, or whatever my local power company is giving me.
