The guy died way too young, whatever you think of his politics.

This is probably hitting his family hard.

I just hope we can agree, as I assume we will, to do the decent thing and lay off for a bit.

After all, he was just the messenger.

If someone was horribly misguided, deceitful, untruthful, and complicit in any number of possible violations of law at the highest level, then that is what and who they are. Or were.

Nothing someone posts on an internet board is going to change that one way or the other.

This board is hailed by some as the bearer of the light and by others as a subversive hornets nest. No one event will sway people into either camp. Most people firmly believe in one or the other.

or airhead Dana Perino

So Tony worked for Fox - a lot of newspeople found themselves bought up by Fox.

Tony was gracious and charming and engaging, and didn't come off as deceptive (unlike Scott).

It's sad to die so relatively young, and leave a family behind - what was it, three children? If I did the math right, at least two of them are under 18.

No, no need to hate on Tony Snow.

11. Tony Snow was a long time propagandist for the
Republican party. He was a frequent guest host for Rush Limbaugh when Rush was on vacation. He was not a good man who found himself in the Fox juggernaut. He was sought out by Murdoch and then Bush precisely because of his success at propaganda on the Rush Limbbaugh show.

When Rush Limbaugh finally buys it will he too suddenly become a "good man?" I DON'T THINK SO.

That kind of stuff actually WILL be used against us.

And the problem was the whole Administration, and the whole political and economic system we live under, not the White House press secretary. If you demonize the individual you fall into their trap.

It's the LIVING you should be enraged at.

21. My Republican brother died at age 42
We never agreed on politics, but I loved him no less for it. He died unexpectedly in 2006 of an undiagnosed heart condition. He had no health insurance at the time and left three children, all under the age of 18.

Death knows no politics, and neither does love or human decency. There is no better time to demonstrate our love for our fellow humans than upon the passing of another, especially if we disagreed upon much in this life. My sincere condolences to Tony Snow's family.

Having said that, the untimely death of my brother stirred me to work even harder to work for universal health care for all. I will also thank those who worked so hard to keep Social Security from being privatized since my niece and nephews were benficiaries of the system. I believe that a fitting legacy in Tony Snow's memory is to continue the fight for universal health care and a cure for cancer so that other families will not be saddened by such an untimely death.

Ultimately, the same 'side of the aisle' that wants to dismantle social security, wic, get it. And though they prevent social programs like UHC (singlepayer), it ends up costing their family just like it costs our family.

My condolences to your family on your brother's death too.

So if Karl Rove died tomorrow, would he be given a pass because "the system" is f'd up?

People are accountable for their actions. Tony Snow was complicit. No one put a gun to his head and said he had to work for a gang of criminals. He could have taken a different path in life and used his talents to work for human rights and social justice. He didn't. He was content to carry water for what is indisputably the most monstrous administration, EVER, in the history of America. That is his legacy. It is what it is.

Those of us who've actually lost a loved one may not have thought much of the politics of the man in question, but can appreciate the grief of his family and friends.

Refusing to piss on someone else's grave does not make one a "wuss" or bowing down to "our Republican overlords". It's embarrassing to read the written stylings of those who think poop flinging is appropriate personal expression when someone else dies.

The more I read this crap, the more I wonder about the backgrounds and personal lives of some who post here. If there are those who think I'm weak, so be it. It reminds me of postings I've seen on the FReak board. Those folks are planning on defiling Jimmy Carter's grave. What makes us any different?

65. No Ken, he was not "just the messenger."
Edited on Sat Jul-12-08 03:41 PM by Raster
When the message is such an obvious distortion of the truth, he is not just the messenger.

When the message is used to fabricate reasons for an illegal and immoral war whose purpose exists to enrich the wealthy, he is not just the messenger.

When the message is the cause of over 4,000 American deaths and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi deaths, he is not just the messenger.

Tony Snow, 53, died after a battle with colon cancer. Father, husband and friend to many. May he rest in peace.

Tony Snow, mouthpiece and frontman for the most profane criminal enterprise to ever darken Washington, D.C., was not just the messenger, he was a willing, paid participant.

your son lived and is able to continue his life. Bless you both. And you are so right, many are not with us today. No one should have ever lost a loved one in this illegal and immoral war. This wasn't about ideology and making the world a better place. It wasn't about the safety and security of the United States. It was about money. And power. And greed. And the safety and security of the Texas-American Petroleum Mafia and its partner-in-hell, the Military/Industrial Complex. I will not yield to the apologists and collaborators, and yes, accomplices. The OUTRIGHT FUCKING EVIL that bush* and cheney* and their minions have done will take decades to correct. And then there are things that can never be corrected and the lives that can never be replaced. I appreciate a bit of decorum and empathy, because although I am a S.O.B., I am not a tactless S.O.B. But beyond common courtesy, my empathy and patience ends. Those that enable these evil bastards are JUST AS RESPONSIBLE and SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. And I will tolerate none of this revisionist bullshit. Tony Snow, rest in peace if you can. History will not remember you kindly.

67. How is it that DU is so uninformed about Tony Snow?
You do know that Tony Snow was raising money for GOP candidates while serving as press secretary, right? This was a first in the history of the position.

Tony Snow, just the messenger?! Don't you believe it.

75. Isn't "he was just the messenger" just another way of saying
"he (I) was just following orders"?

Didn't work too well for the Nazis. Just sayin'
