Stinky just confronted a major Rightwing Asshat!!
We were parking at the grocery store just now, and an old van pulled up to the curb with a huge hand-made sign on the back: "STOP SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON!" On the bumper were all the expected "Power of Pride," "Support the Troops" kinds of stickers.

"I'm going to say something to him," said Stinky.

"No! Don't make a scene -- just don't say anything!" said I, always afraid of confrontation.

Then we noticed yet another big sign on the side window, like the one in the back: "STOP SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON!" Also, big painted eagles and flags on the doors.

"I gotta say something," said Stinky.

"Don't say anything! Just give him a look or something."

The guy had walked into the movie store, and when he came out, sure enough, Stinky said, friendly as can be, "Lemme ask you something." The guy stopped. "Sure."

"How big a moron are you?"

"I'm a little moron," said the guy, clearly not ready for a confrontation.

Stinky: "A little moron, huh? Are you afraid she's gonna bite yer balls off?"

"She's not through yet!" said the guy.

Stinky called him something -- a "fucking asshole" I believe -- to which the guy replied in kind, and then, "Oh yeah, you liberals! Liberals!"

I was SO nervous, but smiled afterwards in spite of myself. The guy's van was totally In Your Face, so Stinky got in his face back. "We gotta stand our ground and give it back to 'em," says the clown.

I'm not saying I encourage such things... but I'll admit to some satisfaction.

:)

6. Really! There are plenty of other senators who are more activist, more liberal, etc.
It's just bizarre!!

2. You missed the "Do you still live on Mom's basement, you dickweed??"
The guy was about my age - early 60s. That's what evoked the "Oh yeah, you liberals! Liberals!" comment.

(Waaaaaay too much time spent with Hate Radio, letting it turn his brain to mush.)

3. These kind of confrontations never change anyone's mind.
It's a huge waste of energy.

4. You're right, of course.
His mind will never be changed. But he's got to know that shit won't be causing any more cowering.

5. Of course not. That wasn't the point.

Anybody with that kind of signage all over his car isn't about to have his mind changed about his politics. But any assumptions he might have had about nobody reacting are gone.

8. Shucks, I never do anything but get nervous!
(Did I tell you about the time he went into a Vietnam Vets organization tent on the mall in DC one veteran's day, wearing a DU "Hero/Zero" shirt -- showing Kerry getting his medals and Bush in his phony flight-suit costume? He said nothing confrontational, but sure got some looks!!)

21. Yeah but you are really cute about it.
This is not to call you a bimbo in any way shape or form but you ***are*** his perfect foil. Like Gracie Allen to his George Burns.

Would love to see picts of him in that T shirt.

Quick hop on the scanner and post them while he's not looking.

LOL

9. What's admirable about confronting and insulting someone for expressing his political opinion?

10. What's admirable about doing nothing?
These people have lived life like unchecked cockroaches for at least the past ten or fifteen years.

But thanks for your high minded attitude.

12. They have the right to hold opinions worthy of cockroaches
And to express those opinions and not to be confronted or verbally abused for that expression.

Is that high minded of me? No, it's an expression of my belief in the importance of free expression and my distaste for those who would suppress the free expression of those they disagree with.

13. Nonsense. Confrontation is exactly what's needed. Opposition. Dissent.
A HUGE part of why we've been slip-sliding to the fascist right for 30 years is because liberals didn't want to be called "liberals" or "hippies" and have been cowering (politely, of course) instead of taking an outspoken stance. Hell ... it's like the deactivation of the draft removed the spine from the left.

14. Rubbish.
We have not declared ourselves openly and we have not stood up to intimidation and verbal abuse from them. That's entirely different from becoming cockroaches ourselves.

we gotta get in their faces whenever and everywhere the opportunity arises. Turning the other cheek may be for some but it damn sure isn't for me.

18. I've done that, but I give hem no quarter and don't back down
Two months ago I'm paying my rent on my storage cubical at Public storage (when you lost a house and move into an apartment, there is stuff you just can't fit). A physically disabled vet IN A WHEEL CHAIR was arguing with a chicken hawk about health care and the chicken hawk was spewing all of the Reich-wing talking points. When I got done with Booshe's abandoning the vets, Walter Reed Hospital, how McSame and Booshe opposed the GI Bill, and also about the prescription benefits rape of Medicare, he was cursing to beat the band. My final comment was Fuck you, walk a mile it THAT man's shoes before you criticize the pittance he requires to live.
I was truly hoping he would have made a move.

The wheelchair vet and I have become friends.

Fuck those morans.
