Hey all you criminals who want to buy guns, come to VA....
You can also keep your gun next to you on the bar when you're out for a night of drinking, so it's all good! :banghead:

A Senate committee killed legislation yesterday to require private sellers at gun shows to obtain a criminal background check on buyers.

The Courts of Justice Committee voted 9 to 4 to reject the measure -- the fifth consecutive year that lawmakers have refused to close the so-called gun-show loophole.

7. Gun-Show loophole
I think the gun "show loop-hole" is exaggerated. I can buy a copy of the weekly "local Trader" magazine and find 75-100 fire arms (handguns and rifles) for sale by private individuals. These sales are completely unregulated. I have purchased a hunting rifle from these "for sale" ads. IMO, that this is a much easier forum to sell fire arms in than gun shows. I live in Virginia.

8. Very few gun show sales involve private sellers
It's too expensive to buy a table at a gun show unless you're an actual, licensed dealer. And those guys have to do the background check. Anybody who is selling enough guns to make a profit at a gun show needs to be prosecuted for dealing guns without a license.

Most private gun sales are through classified ads, or at flea markets and the like. Gun shows mainly sell dealer guns. The private "sales" statistics you see are mainly trade-ins from private owners of guns, swapped for a dealer gun (which requires a background check, too).

This is a real non-problem.

9. Get the private sellers out of the market...
that's the real problem. If you want to sell your gun(s), you should be required to go through a licensed dealer. If you want to buy a gun, you should be required to go through a licensed dealer. You can't sell cigarettes or booze out of the back of your truck, it's the same principal here, it's something that needs to be regulated.
