Iran Fires More Missiles In Test Last Night
MArk Halperin at Time's THE PAGE just reported that:

ASSOCIATED PRESS
The country launches a second round of long-range missiles overnight in an effort to show Iran can defend itself against any attack by the U.S. or Israel.
The tests come hours after Secretary of State Rice warned Iran that Washington will not back down in the face of threats against Israel.

I'm guessing the political rhetoric on Iran will heat up today.

1. All this chicken struting by both sides could very well end in WWIII
In Israel, many fear than Iran is working towards a second Holocaust. And, Israel warns that they have enough to turn Iran into a radioactive desert.

Everybody needs to calm the fuck down, and take some big steps back from poking, prodding and war gaming.

5. Define "Long Range"
As a little kid, I did the "duck and cover" drills...preparing for the day when a Soviet nuke would come crashing on my city. I grew up hearing about MIRVs and ICBMs and MAD...the real possibility that the world could incinerate many times over. And did this country go rushing to war because of it? Get our panties in a wad about it?

From what I see, this missile has a range of about 600 miles...a mere pop-gun in our arsenal. The missile wasn't tipped with anything...and there's no proof that Iran could tip it with anything. But to listen to the corporate media this ranks up their with a nuke test or that these missiles could travel thousands of miles. Now if we were surrounded on three sides by a large, hostile power, would we just sit there and fret and capitulate? The lack of perspective here...typicial in today's hyperventilated corporate media...will play the "outrage" card as they and this regime keep looking for something/anything to attack Iran...expanding the wars for profit and making it even tougher for any future administration from removing our troops.

7. I've Seen The Map
In my book, long range is one that goes 2,500 or more...or in Iran's case one that would have to travel 6,000 miles...one that could hit the Continental U.S. Then, what warhead goes on that missile? What damage would it do? Compare that damage to what we could inflict in the minutes of a launch...I'm sure the Persian Gulf area is swarming with Posideon missiles all pre-targeted and ready to go.

Yes, this missile could strike Israel, but then what? Surely Teheran knows that any strike is sure to be met with massive retaliation...for every one missile Iran launches, Israel has 10...it's both economic and political suicide. You'd figure the hatred between the Shiite and Sunnis would create concerns from the Arab sheikdoms...I sure haven't heard much about that.

9. I agree,
Israel would wipe them out, as would the US arsenal in region. We have nukes sitting in the Gulf.

Iran test fires, it's a threat. Israel war games is a protective measure. Iran has no interest in attacking, they are more interested in self-preservation. But, they are being goaded and poked into escalation.

I think it's all propaganda campaigning against Iran.

10. Amen
I could see crashcart looking at a map of the Iranian oil facilities all within easy shot of our troops in Iraq and in the Gulf and must have wet dreams of how putting all this oil out of commission will fatten his porfolios. Then there's all those defense contractors who will make big bucks as for every missile we fire, they have to be replaced. For the corporate media, they dream of those big ratings of "Shock & Awe"...airing those "awesome" Pentagon briefings and having their bobbleheads sitting on aircraft carriers as yet another Tomahawk goes flying off.

Yes, Iran is acting in their own self defense...the lack of our understanding of that country's culture and political structure is numbing. Once again, people have bought a cartoon image painted by this regime and get suckered into another war for profit.

Cheers...
