TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran test-fired nine missiles on Wednesday and warned the United States and Israel it was ready to retaliate if they attacked the Islamic Republic over its disputed nuclear projects.

3. What would REALLY be news if a country - any country -
publically proclaimed that it would not retaliate if attacked. Iran stating that it will retaliate in response to attack makes it neither a bellicose nation nor one that should be praised for uniquely standing up to aggression. Every country in the world could make the same statement with slight changes in the names of potential aggressors, e.g. Chad-Sudan, India-Pakistan, Burma-Thailand, Venezuela-Columbia, etc.

It is the kind of chest thumping that is probably done for domestic political reasons rather than to tell foreigners something they didn't already know.
