Should we collapse the Science and Religion forums at DU??
They're seriously considering it at Free Republic, just thought we might want to give it 2 seconds of consideration.

1. They have a science
forum at FR?

Boy, I'll bet their form of science is pretty damned penetrating.

"Study finds Closeted-gay-toe-tappers speak unique language in airport bathrooms"
May be at the top of the list...

Then there is, Jesus Rode Dinosaurs, ancient photos found!

3. Science is just another "belief" there don't you know.

13. Well, sadly, there are more than a few DUers who think science is "belief" too. n/t

2. It's a more interesting question that it first appears
But the truth is there are plenty of science questions that have nothing to do with religion and plenty of religious questions that have nothing to do with science - they intersect at a key points (evolution, the origin of humanity, the possibility of a creating God, stem-cell research, probably others I'm not thinking of), but both science and religion have rich and vibrant lives outside of squabbling with each other.

5. I think the importance is how one "knows"

In science, it's based on repeatable experiments on our physical environment.

In religion, it's based on feeling, or some internal (religious) logic.

Very very different.

8. That and the type of questions it answers
There are certain questions that seem beyond the reach of science, and may remain so. Like "How does one live a meaningful life?"

4. I shot my cannons at another forum at our newpaper
on the ID issue. Called them out on it: it's a trojan horse for inclusion of creationism in Science classes. I reminded them of some of the wierd and varied other belief systems of creationism, and how all beliefs need to be included in religion or philosophy classes, not Science. Mine was the final post, so far.

I am amazed how they invite their own readers, kids, etc into being dumbed down.

7. Replace them both with a single Metaphysics forum,
where we quote scripture in response to any given topic/problem.
