What would you do?

Sure, the "right" thing to do is sit home, roll your eyes, and change the station.

The "right" thing to do is to smile and say nothing

Fuck that

I'm not "right"

I hate that fucker - always have. Anyone who tries to intimidate black senators in elevators, or votes against people just because of their orientation - deserves nothing less than a steaming sack of shit and piss liberally dumped on their grave, followed by the cha cha cha.

So if we here Bush or Cheney talking about what a "Great American" Helms was what are you going to do?

2. Yes - as racist as Nathan Bedford Forrest
Jesse Helms was a traitor to his country, his country's ideals and his country's people.

to his nation or it's ideals.

Of course, you have to realize that the nation he was serving collapsed on April 9, 1865.......

10. You Know...
...you're absolutely right about that. You think it's funny but it's not.

Once again, there are many people in the Old Confederacy who are still fighting the Civil War. More than you know.

And guess what else? You're not getting rid of them.

In the South, there are more of them than there are of you.

Never forget it.

Really...why not just GO!

Secede - and all move to one state. Because I guarantee if you were to secede you might find 1-2% behind you. And you can't all marry your sister or cousin - wait, I need to correct that. You already have.

for the requisite time period. Big deal: bigger crooks, racists and all-around assholes than Helms have done so (or their corpses have, at any rate). Remember the Reagan death-gasm? This won't be anything like that, thank God.

9. What You Have To Understand...
...is that a lot of old timers and rednecks in the south liked his approach.

There are a lot of those people around in places like North Carolina and South Carolina and Georgia.

Those states are also in the midst of sucking up a lot of our professional population.

Eventually, Democrats will have to learn to deal with the whole God thing. If they don't, they won't be around.

You don't have to compare with reality I guess

Nice recycled talking points from, like, eight years ago. Looked at the polls lately, "SF Guy?" Americans hate the Republican party. If you guys don't learn to deal with the whole not-being-a-crooked-incompetent-hypocritical-bunch-of-douchebags thing, I'm very concerned that you won't be around.

On edit: for us to poop on. Oh, and enjoy your brief and pointless stay here on DU.

"redneck" mentality becomes more and more watered down and less and less relevant.

Those, I mean WE Democrats need to change things to the point that the "approach" is no longer tolerated. Hate has been a core value and they, I mean we should never learn to "deal with" it.

32. The Redneck Thing...
...is already being watered down in Virginia and the Carolinas but if you're waiting on those states to turn blue, that's not gonna happen in our lifetime.

They're also not gonna turn away from Right To Work. That's what a lot of this population realignment is about.

And then there's Texas. There's a lot of power there and a whole lot of money. Some of the wealthiest people in the entire world live in Dallas-Fort Worth (we were there for eight years) and I can assure you...the vast majority of people there are not liberals and they're never gonna be.

The nightmare of most Republicans is the expanding Latino population. Where do you think a good deal of it resides? And guess how they usually vote. "Breeding like rats?" Isn't that the term you people usually use?

My former county? The smallest in Texas. In 2004, our Democratic precinct caucus had approximately 8 of us. This year, I got reports from my friends in the area that it was around 4 or 5 times that. And it's one of the reddest counties in Texas.

You can wish it all you want, but even those who bought the bullshit for a long time are starting to wake up. EVEN in Texas.

Nothing that I can discern at all. Apples and Oranges make a fruit salad and not an argument.

note i am not comparing the two as individuals, just the media coverage, which galls me greatly, because I do not recall seeing much of anything for George Carlin or Bo Diddley.

Carlin and Diddley had much much more to do with my attitudes and the type of person i became, as is true of many many of my generation.

A little clip for 'ol Jesse, because he will pay in death for the things he did in life.

Artist: Cross Canadian Ragweed
Song: Lighthouse Keeper
Album: Garage

I heard that gypsy prophesize
Of the tearing flesh and the mothers' cry
And the crimson flow of blood that would run forever.
We stood before the Kings and Queens
And a hooded man with a guillotine
And prepared to meet the eternal tax collector.
Then a dying man with an aristocrat
On his balcony with a welcome mat
And he laughed and drank all the wine from his cellar.
