I do think that the Democrats in general, since the Clinton impeachment (perhaps before), are getting all caught up in too much detail and losing sight of the big picture. Part of it is that there are so many details to pick at you could try unravelling them for years and still be spinning in ever decreasing circles. But when I take a big step back, there are a few major points that come to mind, for me:
1. Dems don't like to fight dirty, we assume that we can make our complex talking points and that they will resonate with the public - and they don't. The Republicans have learned lock step sound bites repeated often work best.
2. Dems don't like to lie, but Republicans have no problem with it - they are for the most part major hypocrites. Related to point one, they have learned to lie in short sound bites often, and it is the lie that the public remembers.
3. Republicans will NOT give up power easily. Even in this apparent slam dunk election, it is not beyond them to steal, lie, cheat, do whatever it takes to keep their power.
4. The media is corporate, it is big business, and there is no reason for them to tilt support toward the Dems, or even play it down the middle. It is in their best interest for McSame to win.
5. The shit is hitting the fan so badly, in so many ways and in so many places, that there is significant negative momentum in our society right now. If Obama wins, it will not be a very enjoyable or easy job - the mess that Bush and his cronies have created will take years and years to fix, if it indeed can be fixed. I sometimes think it is going to take an unimaginable catastrophe to wake the TV -numbed masses out of their bubbles and get them to vote and think in their own self interests.
Just a few Monday morning thoughts, as I scan the news and the posts here. I think we need to keep it simple, keep it crisp, and keep our eyes on the prize.
