Let's pull way back, leave the detail and look at the biggest of the big picture...
I do think that the Democrats in general, since the Clinton impeachment (perhaps before), are getting all caught up in too much detail and losing sight of the big picture. Part of it is that there are so many details to pick at you could try unravelling them for years and still be spinning in ever decreasing circles. But when I take a big step back, there are a few major points that come to mind, for me:

1. Dems don't like to fight dirty, we assume that we can make our complex talking points and that they will resonate with the public - and they don't. The Republicans have learned lock step sound bites repeated often work best.

2. Dems don't like to lie, but Republicans have no problem with it - they are for the most part major hypocrites. Related to point one, they have learned to lie in short sound bites often, and it is the lie that the public remembers.

3. Republicans will NOT give up power easily. Even in this apparent slam dunk election, it is not beyond them to steal, lie, cheat, do whatever it takes to keep their power.

4. The media is corporate, it is big business, and there is no reason for them to tilt support toward the Dems, or even play it down the middle. It is in their best interest for McSame to win.

5. The shit is hitting the fan so badly, in so many ways and in so many places, that there is significant negative momentum in our society right now. If Obama wins, it will not be a very enjoyable or easy job - the mess that Bush and his cronies have created will take years and years to fix, if it indeed can be fixed. I sometimes think it is going to take an unimaginable catastrophe to wake the TV -numbed masses out of their bubbles and get them to vote and think in their own self interests.

Just a few Monday morning thoughts, as I scan the news and the posts here. I think we need to keep it simple, keep it crisp, and keep our eyes on the prize.

1. I agree with everything..especially point ..3
They will do anything to retain power. Even if that means trying to overturn elections. They don't care. It they need to do something unthinkable to retain a veto, and a filibuster in the Senate, then they will do it..great post.

2. Apparently many Democrats believe that a slam dunk election is not sporting.
It's best to beat up on Obama ourselves so it won't be so hard for Republicans. Plus, just in order to make the election much closer, and therefore, much more stealable, Obama should move to the left--as far to the left as possible. Big deal if it costs him some votes. The High Priesthood knows better than the unappreciative masses.

It seems as though when it comes to the presidency there is an element of the Democratic Party that has a disdain for winning. The thing is that they actually believe that their way is the one and only way. Either you are with them, or you hate the Constitution. Kind of like Republicans where you are either with them or you hate America.

3. The GOOP Motto: The End Justifies The Means
Repugnicans don't care how they get power as long as they have it...and they will do anything to either get it or hold on to it. Along with them is their corporate media toadies and stenographers who gleefully print their lies and distortions with little checking cause they, too, live for that same power and the access to it. They've been sucked into a 20 plus year narrative of all sorts of Democratic party "weaknesses" that always find their way into any discussion and diverts from the corruption and moral and political void of the GOOP.

For years many people bought the propaganda...mostly because a lot of what the repugnicans claimed was untested. Now it's been proven beyond most people's doubts at how bankrupt this "philosophy" is and many are turning away from the lies and not only looking for change but wanting to take out their frustrations on the repugnicans for creating the many messes we're in.

Many like to compare this election to 2000 or 2004...this is a very different country and electorate this year. Those who don't realize it will get quite a jolt on election day.
