Who says Corvettes dont get good fuel milage??

I have a distant relative who recently bought a 08 Corvette. It was no suprise to me that it averaged around 22mpg, and they easily reach around 30mpg on the interstates. But he did a couple intake and eaxhaust modifications, and a good tuning. He went on a 800 mile trip the last week, and got 37mpg! And now back its average around 24mpg. That is damn good considering it has a 430hp 6.2 v8! Thats better than my 01 Trans Am, which got a best of 31mpg.

2. My car got 31mpg going 74mph, same thing my relative did.

These are very aerodynamic cars, so they still get their best fuel milage at alot faster speeds than a truck or SUV.

4. I agree with you... I have a 4th gen Camaro... I can get crazy high MPG when I want... But who ...

wants to pay 60,000 for a car with that kinda engine and not use it?

What kills me is seeing a fully loaded Prius on the Highway going 75....

3. Almost any car CAN get decent mileage if you drive it like an old lady.

As the above post asks, why get a Corvette...or any performance car...if you don't drive it like you stole it?

6. Cars with big engines can get pretty good mileage if you drive slower and

it has a 6 speed transmission.

We have a 6 speed (automatic) in a 4.0 liter Pacifica, and at a steady 65 mph it is turning just a little over 1200 rpms (and getting almost 30 mpg).

Plus, the drag coefficient on a Corvette must be incredibly low.

7. I think there are engine blocks that can shut off extra cylinders to save gas.

I believe a high-end car maker like Ferrari or Lamborghini--I can't remember which--features a sports car that will shut off extra cylinders at interstate cruising speeds. If you're driving at a constant speed, you might only need 4 of the 8 cylinders.

13. I have a 95 Lincoln mark viii

4'6 32 valve v8. It turned 290hp stock, I have an icebox air cleaner setup on it and a superchip, so it's turning over 300hp easy. It gets an easy 26-27 mpg on the highway, if it's running 100% gasoline. With the E10 10% ethanol crap, it drops off to about 24.

14. Say wha... 37 mpg?? If I calculated correctly, using 3.785 litres for a gallon,

my 1996 Honda Civic does 37 mpg on highways, when I do really well. Meaning being able to avoid breaking almost at all, very steady travelling at 75 mph.

To do that with a Corvette, just wow... Then again, if he made some modifications and only used low revs and accelerated minimally, there is no reason a beast like that shouldn't consume way less.

And if he feels like it, he can still unleash the beast from time to time...

15. Makes ya wonder why auto makers wont tune cars like that dont it?

Then again, they have emission standards they have to follow, including noise regs in which they have to make the intake/exhaust real restrictive to make them quite. That robs power and fuel milage.

16. My 2nd car is an 07 Z06 but I opted for the 7.0L 505 horse

powerplant. When I drive it I get about 8 mpg but it works much better than a vibrator!
