Law firm being investigated for helping major corporations to disqualify American job applicants
http://www.manufacturing.net/News-Labor-Dept-To-Probe-Immigration-Law-Firm.aspx?menuid=36

The nation's largest immigration law firm is under federal scrutiny over whether it helped major U.S. corporations disqualify American job applicants and give thousands of high-paying positions to immigrants.

The unprecedented Labor Department inquiry centers on Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy -- a New York firm at the forefront of a political effort to ease hiring of skilled foreign workers.

The Labor Department is auditing all pending applications for legal immigrant workers the firm has filed on behalf of its corporate clients.

Fragomen's prestigious client roster includes General Electric Co., IBM Corp., Cisco Systems Inc., Intel Corp. and Bank of America Corp., according to company publications and trade journals. The firm also represents The Associated Press on immigration issues.

The inquiry focuses on what advice the law firm gave its corporate clients. There was no indication the companies themselves are under scrutiny.

1. boy, if THIS doesn't make you go - "was wondering how long before we heard something like this!"
because, I know some very educated and qualified, decorated and respected people who cannot find work at corporations.

Very telling...

This administration has allowed so much to happen in its short time in history.

6. I think there was a study done years back that said Fortune 500s were net liquidators of jobs.
Technology and outsourcing were the reasons why they were net liquidators instead of creators of jobs. Small and medium-sized businesses are still the primary engine of the economy, astonishingly enough.

8. I remember reading about workshops on how to disqualify Americans
and hire immigrants on H1B's. So this is not new. What's new is that somebody is risking their job at DOL and doing something about it.

"The reason an employer pays its lawyer $3,000 to $5,000 is because they need help in not finding qualified American workers," said Kim Berry, president of the Programmers Guild, an advocacy group that believes immigrant hiring rules are too lax.

Amen!

Edited on Thu Jun-26-08 12:07 AM by lonestarnot
the firm "has filed" on behalf of its corporate clients. Will they have to now pay 2 for the price of 2? Tee hee! Oh. Prollee not, they get away with anything in the slave labor market.

15. Let's get a move on, Dept. of Labor.

I'm sitting here after 100+ job applications, 1 interview, 1 request for more information.

A degree and 15 years of experience should at least garner a couple of phone interviews.
