McClellan: Bush "still clings to the belief that 30, 40, 50 years... history is going to vindicate"

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/368203_mcclellan24.html

<snip>

But most striking at Monday's Town Hall were McClellan's observations about Bush, with whom he had worked for seven years before stepping down as press secretary in 2006.

"He's not one to acknowledge mistakes," McClellan said. Bush, he added, "still clings to the belief that 30, 40, 50 years from now, history is going to vindicate him. ... It's self-deception."

1. Yeah, the history books written by his own pResidential Library's think tank...
...and history-rewriting center.

But to his, that's all that matters.

Like he's going read anything not written by them anyway.

2. It's the only way he can live with himself.
He's the worst president in the history of the USA.

I wonder if the rest of the *ush family deledes themselves the same way. I'm sure some do.

3. It's self fulfilling self aggrandizement. If Iraq stablizes in any way, he's been "right".
At some point the brutal ongoing violence in Iraq must taper off. And the inevitable tide of history is toward democratization. So no matter what occurs over the next 30 years, a 90 year old Dubya is going to look back at the repairs people built on the rubble he made and be able to say, "See? Look at all the progress I laid the foundation for!"

It's like an arsonist taking credit for the new growth in the a national park he torched to the ground.

6. Then, he'll likely die happy, always thinking that vindication will come someday.
It won't; but he won't know that. He'll be no worse off than Millard Fillmore or James Buchanon are today. ;-)

7. yeah, well there's peace in Vietnam
so I guess invading Vietnam was the right thing to do, or as Karl Rove put it, Vietnam wasn't prosecuted properly(mind you after Nixon won on his secret plan to end the war, Nixon extended AND escalated the war causing more to do while Nixon was president than in the previous 5 years)

8. He'll be dead in 50 years...and without accountability...there will be those
who will continue to claim the "left/Democrats/Anti-war people/Anti-American because they didn't support the war" lied about Bush (and even with accountability that will happen but to a lesser degree)..but, most assuredly, without it, more people will believe it...instead of just the crackpots.

Without accountability, the criminal actions of the Bush Regime look as if they were up for debate.... (were they criminal or not? some say yes...some say no) and without accountability, the history books used in primary/middle/secondary schools will frame all his crimes with a question mark.

Sure, there will be other historical accounts that show the facts...that Bush was a war criminal...but then there will be counter books that will claim "they lied about Bush"...and the future Bush defenders will proclaim - "if Bush was so bad, America would have tried him for his crimes"

10. Bush's grasp of reality has always been a bit tenuous...and it remains so.
