Forget the magic fuel additives too

Use a do-it-yourself fuel additive

We've heard of everything from acetone to mothballs to WD-40 being added to the gas, and though some users claim a modest increase in mileage, the additives can cost more than any gas savings can justify. Plus, good luck in getting manufacturers to honor any warranty claims if they learn you have been using unauthorized additives.

1. I Know People Who Swear by This Stuff
but I've never cared enough to actually try it. Probably no different from putting a little motor oil in. Maybe good for engine, but I am not surprised that cost savings are nonexistent.

2. I've a neighbor who is a distributor for the mothball based crap
A reasonable guy, seemingly intelligent, but he drives around in his van with a decal that says, "ask me how to improve gas mileage." He believes it works and evidence to the contrary doesn't sway him. Me? Anything that has had the owner sued and then forced by the Fed to cease operations is not something I find worthy of my money or my gas tank.

Ya know all those commercials for driving your car with Chevron gas? And if you go to a Chevron station, there are jugs of "Techron" to help you keep your engine running better and cleaner??

Same stuff as moth balls. Techron is 100% Naptha!! And every gallon of Chevron gas contains a small per centage of Techron. If it's not enough for you, you can buy a full jug of it!

5. Under stress, the weak-minded turn to magic fuels and magic energy sources....
There'll likely soon be a cottage industry springing up built around separating these idiots from their money.
