Paul Rainwater Should be Fired
Paul Rainwater is the guy who told FEMA Louisiana no longer wanted the $85 million material that is now on its way back to New Orleans. So, this was not just a mistake on FEMA's part. FEMA asked Rainwater if Louisiana needed or wanted the material and Rainwater told them no. FEMA should have done more to make sure that the materials were not needed, but Rainwater should also have talked to other organizations before telling FEMA to give the material away. Therfore, Paul Rainwater needs to lose his job. This would most likely not have happened if Rainwater had done his job. In addition, this is a screw up on the part of bobby Jindal in that Jindal is the person who appointed Rainwater to his position.

1. So says FEMA

After the disclosure, Rainwater's organization asked...(FEMA)... to return some of the extensive stockpiles of household goods that had been purchased as "starter kits" for people living in trailers after Hurricane Katrina.

After CNN reported on the giveaway, other Louisiana officials also asked that the supplies be redirected to the state, which originally passed on them. John Medica, director of Louisiana's Federal Property Assistance Agency, told CNN he was unaware Katrina victims still needed the items because no agency had contacted his office.

A direct quote regarding exactly which officials did the actual "passing" would sure have come in handy. And I read nothing which suggests that Rainwater is to blame--if anything, he sounds as unaware as Medica. Now that they've been publically embarrassed, of course they're going to come up with a scapegoat.

2. This Morning On CNN
I realize the article I posted did not include that point. However, this morning on CNN Rainwater admited that he had been offered the material and told FEMA he did not want the material. If you could look at the video from CNN you may find the piece. I will also look for the video of that piece.

3. And did CNN follow up by asking WHY he passed on it?

Maybe Rainwater was, um, REQUIRED to say that to cover FEMA's ass.
