Bush Outsources USMC Vehicle to Foreign Contractor (Israel)!!!
JERUSALEM - An Israeli state-owned corporation has won a contract to supply the U.S. Marine Corps with state-of the-art armored vehicles for use in Iraq, the latest in a long line of Israeli defense sales for use in the war.

Amit Tzimer, spokesman for weapons maker Rafael, said Sunday that, in partnership with U.S. manufacturer PVI, Rafael has signed up to deliver 60 of its new Golan vehicles at a total price of $37 million.

Delivery will be made to the Marines in the United States in May, he said.

Why is America outsourcing ANY of it's military hardware to foreign contractors?

Why is America using an Israeli Armored Fighting Vehicle named after an Israeli occupied Palestinian Territory?

2. Actually, it's a good move.
The Isrealis have a RPG protection device that works. Raytheon's competing design won't be ready for a while.

3. meanwhile, Israeli has a mechanism
that defends against rocket launched grenades that the US won't buy because a US defense contractor is in the process of inventing the same thing. Olberman's reported on this 2x.

5. Lots - if We Aren't Making the Best...
Because having Americans cruise around in a vehicle named after an Israeli occupied territoy is an invitation to... i don't know... BLOW IT UP?

This is NOT a smart move.

It would be akin to naming a Mississippi state police barricade vehicle, ''Lynching Black Men'' - it is incredibly stupid, as well as insensitive.

9. Why would you ask if I was kidding?
What would be the reaction of a black man to a Mississippi state police barricade vehicle entitled ''Nig**r Lynching?''

Why would you expect a different reaction from an Arab with this new ''Golan?''

11. I can see the Al-Jazeera interview now...
"Well, Ali, I was sitting on the fence about being a suicide bomber, and then I found out the new US armored vehicle is called the 'Golan', and I just flipped out. I mean, I was willing to put up with the airstrikes, the occupation, the loss of my job in the Iraqi army, the fact I can't get electricity anymore and my uncle's dialysis machine doesn't work, and the fact that I can't even go to the market anymore without worrying some Shiite infidel is going to kill me, but this whole 'Golan' thing really pisses me off. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go blow myself up."

:sarcasm:

12. Because this will not be called the Golan in the USMC arsenal
and two, who cares what it is called if it saves USMC lives?

Your analogy has no merit because it would NEVER happen.

8. Firstly, I don't think the name makes it more of a target
I think in the places we're going to deploy this thing, the American flag on the side of the vehicle are invitation enough. With that being the case, I would want our soldiers to be have the very best vehicle on the market. The only downside is realizing that we've been outcompeted by another country, which is always a disappointment.

13. The Voice of Reason.
Holy shit -- these people are cheering on the Military-Industrial(and now insert here)-Israel complex and its systematic war machine and obliteration of other peoples in the Middle East?

I can't believe I am reading this.

14. fairly or not
Israel is not particularly popular in Iraq. In a world in which propaganda links the US to Israel in seeking to destroy Arabs, does it make sense to then drive Israeli vehicles, filled with US soldiers, through Baghdad?

15. What ever happened to Detroit?
It did such a good job switching from Buicks to tanks virtually overnight following 12/7/41 that I thought they'd just do it again.

Maybe if the US would've "won" this "war" in just a few weeks (months) like was predicted, we wouldn't be going to foreign suppliers...? Just a thought.
