If We Drill, I Want the Oil.........
I am going to put my feelings about the oil industry in the proper perspective. The oil belongs to me........and you. The land in America is ours. The commodity (oil) is a national resource. If you want to drill, and Congress gives permission, it should be worked out in a contract with the Government that represents me and shared equally among the citizens. I'm sick and tired of this "WE" stuff when they really mean "THEY".

Make no mistake about it, the war in Iraq is about oil. We all know that. But it's not "OUR" oil, it's "THEIR'S". Halliburton, Chevron, Atlantic Richfield, and on and on. Our sons and daughters die and sacrifice. Our tax dollars are spent, and "They" receive the benefits. It's all about risk and reward. "WE", as a nation, take the risks and "THEY", the huge multi-nationals, reap the rewards.

Nationalize the oil industry, then we can talk.

1. Oil companies should be nationalized before they are allowed to
drill for oil on federal land.

Why should they be allowed to plunder our land for profit and we se no benefit?

But more over, we need to fight to keep them off our federal lands.

2. I live in the Wayne National
Forest portion of Ohio. They have been drilling for oil all over it for many years. They continue to drill here.

3. Same goes for trees
on public land.

Good rant. It should be discussed every day.

4. I agree, and go further.
The US should form a company like AmTrak or the USPO. All oil under federal land can only be drilled for by this company which will sell it at the going rate for use in the US. The profits all go into the general fund or could be earmarked for use in developing alternative energy sources like solar or subsidizing companies that produce cars that will get 150 mpg or run on 100% renewable energy.

This is OUR natural resource, not some corporations whose fat cat owners and operators rake in obscene profits and pay themselves obscene salaries from our property.

6. Now Whose Oil Company We Talkin' Here?
Not that I don't agree with what you're saying, but you forget an important sector that not only has profited the most from this war for profit but has a lot of controls on the prices...the banks and brokerage houses. The instability has led to speculation on a large scale and with little to no regulation, its the fox going crazy in the henhouse. Iran hiccups and the price of oil goes up another 2 dollars a barrel...a bad flood in Iowa and let's speculate some more. As long as the resource is traded in these conditions, expect more games and gouging as those who are doing it don't wear sheets but hide in board rooms and wear horned-rimmed glasses.

Also, for those who are losing, there are some winners. Those are the ones who have oil company stocks in their portfolios. Those rising prices just go from one pocket to another.

7. Screw that.
We need economically viable alternatives to oil, THEN we'll see change. Heavy-handed and borderline communist measures taken with the oil industry will only hurt, in the long run.

8. Let's see how much drilling they want to do
when we own the oil.

We also should own the renewable and bios. Energy is the public's life blood and should not be controlled by multi-national corporations.
