One of my favorite Russert moments...
I do not wish to get into a conversation about the 2000 (s)election. However, long before the election, I remember Tim with his little whiteboard writing Florida on it. I was in Washington DC on election night 2000 and was laying in bed in my hotel room LAAATE at night, after it had been called, then uncalled, then called again, and Tim pulls that little whiteboard out from under the desk and there it was, FLORIDA.

Say what you will about him, actually, don't because too many people are being too disrespectful, but he had a fucking EYE for politics and political math. I'm so sad that we won't be able to hear his analysis as we approach the next election.

That is all.

1. He did good
"Florida

Florida

Florida"

Someone has left a whiteboard with "Tim, we will miss you" written on it, with some flowers, outside the NBC studio on Nebraska Avenue, NW in Washington.

2. He was
a blue collar kid from a Democrat city.

he learned things from that back round that most will never learn.

He could spot a phony and he was willing to expose them with a twinkle in his eye.

We have lost a great man before the most important election of our lifetime..

3. my favorite moment......
...and there were many, I do remember the 'florida, florida, florida' in 2000.

But the best Russert moment of mine was after Katrina and he was pinning down Brown and Chertoff about their failures during that disaster. It was great! He asked them questions that no one could wriggle out of!!

No matter what you thought of Russert he was a political icon and he will be greatly missed. And I didn't know until today but it was because of the mentoring of Russert that brought Chuck Todd to MSNBC. They also said he stressed the importance of coaching interns and other young journalists. We can only hope that his influence will continue in some small way.

4. Russert made "Emily, get out of the way!" possible

Buzzflash note: Even Russert objected.

Whatever became of Emily Miller? Last I heard, she'd ratted out a Rethug operative who had dumped her for a manicurist!

7. I'll never forget him that night
The electoral map had Gore leading Bush and Russert said George Bush only needs Florida. That was the first thing that I recalled when I heard of his death.

10. that night was 'priceless'
I remember the whiteboard, and MSNBC will cement it into
my brain.

I will die thinking about that white board.
