You are correct, of course, about the vets, but it is worse than that. They were designated to be a satanic blood sacrifice. Anyone not sufficiently compartmentalized five years ago knew this, and has lived every day since with that horror. Many more have come to realize it since, but we comprise a very small percentage of the population.
