50. If I wasn't anti violence and taking the law into your own hands
I would say he deserves much worse.

By the way, while on that subject I grew up in a town that had the last hanging in Illinois. The jail is now a musuem and there are many stories told about that day. My father told me that families brought their children to see the hanging and also picnic lunchs to enjoy while watching. He personally refused to watch it, or take part in the activities, although he had to be in town that day on business.

If we let them get away with all of these crimes you might as well tear the Constitution up, original copy and all.

It will be of more use as a reconstituted egg carton.

8. If he is removed one hour before the next president is sworn in, they should do it.
He should have been impeached already, and he should still be impeached. That is the purest example of true justice--suffering the consequences for your action--I can think of.

But, I'm not big on symbolic gestures, and I fully understand why it hasn't happened. I don't even think less of Congress for not doing it, though it disappoints me. I'm not excited by Kucinich's gesture because I've seen it all before (Henry B Gonzales) and expect it will go nowhere.

Still, I salute him for trying, and encourage him to try harder, and if he's ever in Austin and needs a pint, I'll gladly buy it for him. :toast:

35. For the record
Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution states, in part:

Judgment in Cases of Impeachments shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust, or Profit under the United States, but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment, and Punishmnet, according to Law.

Impeachment by no means indicates that the convicted is off the hook after being thrown out of office.

Edited on Tue Jun-10-08 05:09 PM by OMomma
We must investigate all his cronies that enabled these crimes to take place, along with every single CEO at the helm of the appointed corporations that profited excessively from the wars and no bid contracts. US Tax payers are being grossly fleeced and overlooked, our armed forces misused and subverted, while citizens of Iraq continue to be egregiously violated by Bush and his villains of empire.

This nation is being economically manipulated and our future is being squandered BY our highest serving elected leaders! It is hanging out there obvious to see and makes it being ignored even worse. Jesus, what more can we say or do to make this an urgent matter of national security?

Everyone pays so much attention to the pretty people on stage, dancing or singing. MSM uses entertainment, natural disasters, and political drama as a bellwether for ratings. As usual, the press is failing to do it's job again. Pathetic as hell!

37. I definitely think he deserves to be impeached
but the 35 charges seem like they could be modified some what. Iraq is really one thing with many sub-points and some of the other, well I'm not sure are impeachable offenses. We should concentrate on the biggies like the lying us into an illegal war(which has led to the deaths of innocent Iraqis and some of our brave troops), treason for outing an agent and the network, illegal spying on Americans, and torture including false imprisonment which in some cases led to death (more murder). These are all serious crimes and should be punishable by the death penalty not just impeachment. But impeachment would be a good place to start our constitution demands it.

38. "deserve it?" Yes. But a pointless, divisive and politically disastrous exercise.
We have soldiers and Marines dying, $4 gasoline, food prices through the roof, people losing their homes, floods in the Midwest, what else am I missing? Can these be laid at the feet of George Bush? Sure. Is he guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors? Almost certainly.

BUT: Americans want Congress to find, or at least propose solutions to these problems, not engage in a partisan finger-pointing exercise designed to remove the architects of these disasters, who will be gone in seven months anyway. And there will never, NEVER in a million years be 67 votes in the Senate to convict.

It would completely undermine Obama's campaign of change. The perception would be 'business as usual, it's an election year, what else do you expect?'

When the smoke clears, the Dems would have proved that they have no policy ideas on how to get the country on the right track, and President McCain waltzes in by default, you can kiss the Congressional majorities goodbye, and it's four more years of the same. Or worse.

Impeachment: Pointless, divisive and disastrous. Post-term investigations, indictments and trials are the best hope for accountability.

40. Sorry. We all know damned well Bush will pre-emptively pardon
(a la Reagan) everyone he's ever known before he leaves. Hell, 4 hours before the inauguration I bet he pardons Cheney, resigns, has Cheney sworn in, and then Cheney pardons him.

Still doesn't make impeachment a good idea.

62. I can't imagine McCain defending Bush/Cheney while waltzing in by default.
Edited on Wed Jun-11-08 04:47 PM by Uncle Joe
McCain is trying to separate him self from the Cheney/Bush Administration, even though he supports the same disastrous policies, he can't have it both ways.

This isn't partisan finger waving, this is constitutional and if Cheney/Bush haven't earned impeachment, no administration ever will.

Congress can't find or propose solutions to these problems while the architects of these disasters are in power and if you let them skate as if nothing happened, McCain or some future administration stand a much better chance of continuing or repeating them. The corporate media will continue to call McCain a Maverick and he stands a better chance of fooling the people, when in fact the difference in his polices from their's is as Marlboro compared to Marlboro Light.

How does post term investigations, or indictments have any moral authority when the Congress refused to act while it was happening? Will that not be divisive as well and then undermine a potential Obama Administration, if Obama can come to power after the Cheney/Bush administration have been given a free pass by a Democratic controlled Congress?

I agree in one respect it will be divisive, but if you don't divide what you believe in from what's happened and those who have perpetrated it, then you're no different to the people at large, politicians would be all the same. All they care about is obtaining power and are afraid to take a stand when a stand desperately needs to be taken. This is then followed by disillusionment by the people of government and the cycle repeats it self with the caveat that it will most likely be far worse next time.

I believe if Impeachment is pursued without good moral authority based on the Constitution, then it can backfire, but as your first paragraph states of which I agree with and much more, that's not the case.

Other members of his administration we ought to keep here, charge with treason, and when found guilty, hang them.

53. i was a "yes:" then
and i'm a "yes" now. it feels like i've always been a "yes" and wondering how it can be that it hasn't happened. no president and no vice president have ever earned impeachment the way this crew has. not to mention indictment, prosecution, imprisonment for life.
