4. I'm with you in part. I think the war and economy are inextricably linked though.
For me it's the WAR. The WAR. The WAR.

3. Abandoning a Bush Unilateral Belligerance appraoch.
Reengage with the rest of the world, pull out of Iraq (probably by putting UN troops in).

5. There are many vital issues but I have to put global warming climate change at the top
as it threatens humanity's very existence and if we don't address that in a meaningful way, nothing else matters.

13. That's what I keep saying.
As important as all the other stuff seems, if we don't have a planet capable of sustaining life, every other issue is moot.

peace on earth, elections with integrity, democracy, universal health care, freedom of choice, racial equality, and free puppies for everyone mean nothing if everyone is dead.

7. Economy definitely ... Iraq a close second
The two issues are related, too -- if we can bring our
troops home and quit spending so much money in Iraq,
maybe our own economic situation will improve.

12. ENDING UNBRIDLED CORPORATISM first and ending the war second.
Unbridled corporate control over every aspect of our lives is KILLING us. Literally and figuratively. Republinomics is bullshit. Even a MODICUM of fairness would be 10 times better than what we have now. The world cannot afford 8 more years of neolib/neoclown economics. It simply CAN'T.

33. Fair play for Lee Mercer.
After that, I'd say getting back on track with the War on Terror. I'd like economy fixed, of course, but lots of the guys who masterminded the murder of 3000 people on our soil are still at large and the Bush administration still isn't making it much of a priority to hunt them down.

That is almost too stunning a truth to accept.

35. Single-payer health insurance.
I could make a great argument for any number of other pressing issues (obviously, Iraq is way up there.)

But to my mind, getting a nationalized health insurance plan--and I do believe we will wind up with a single-payer plan within ten years, once Obama gets reform under way--would drive a stake through the heart of what's left of Ronnie Raygun's anti-government lunacy started in 1981.

An efficiently run healthcare system would make Americans believers in America again.

36. Ending the Iraq war

I find it a little surprising that only about 20% of the replies in this thread agree with me. Seems like the war has faded somewhat as an election issue around here.

The economy? Yes, it sucks, but unfortunately the president does not have a great deal of influence over it. Obama will not be able to single-handedly end the credit crunch or stabilize asset prices or the dollar. Ending the war, however, should reduce oil and gas prices which should help things.

The other *huge* issue for me is the Supreme Court. There could easily be 2 or 3 vacancies during the next presidential term and the choice of new Justices could impact our nation for the next 20 or 30 years.
