| "ANWR" (pronounced "Ann-Warr") vs. Arctic National Wildlife Refuge |
|
on first reference anyway; thereafter, just "the Wildlife Refuge" or "Refuge" will do, for me.
Anyway, isn't it telling that so few pundits bother to spell out what ANWR actually stands for?

An acronym, a collection of letters, has less emotional impact than the key word in the name: Refuge. As in, a place where Wildlife is supposed to be safe.

| 2. Repukes call it ANWR because it doesn't sound like anything worth saving... |
|
everyone else calls it the Arctic Refuge because we think there is a reason to save it.

I do think, however, that it'd be nice to remember when talking about the Wildlife Refuge that it's supposed to be a Wildlife Refuge.
(I'm not completely militant on the topic of drilling for oil there, by the way. I just don't want anyone to forget what we'd be losing if we were to do so. I also don't want anyone to get away with pretending like one untapped oil reserve is the answer to our energy supply issues.)
