In honor of that polar bear who was killed yesterday, do this: (free and easy)
Every morning, before I log on to DU, I go to animalrescuesite.com first for a moment, and click on the button that says click here.

It is free. It takes a few seconds. It is a site which provides food for different animal rescue groups, for horses, dogs, cats, pigs, chimpanzees. The sponsors, who advertise on the site, pay according to the number of clicks the site receives every day. Every time you click, and you can click once every day, you will provide a little bit of food for an animal in need.

In honor of that polar bear,I thought I would ask you, my DU community, to bookmark this site and go there. Every penny goes for animal food. that's all it is about. And you get the satisfaction of reading about a real rescued animal every day.

(It's silly looking and purple, but it does good work!)

Maybe we can save another animal who needs help.

Thanks!

2. hey Ratty! long time. Thanks. I hate when we destroy animals. Maybe more than when we destroy
people, because we're supposed to be taking care of the other species. They're like children in our hands...

9. Done, also don't forget to give Free Rice via the UN!
And work on your vocabulary at the same time.

http://freerice.com/

Frequently Asked Questions
. . .

To play the game, click on one of the four definitions (“little,” “old,” “big,” or “yellow”) that you think is correct. If you get it right, FreeRice donates 20 grains of rice to help end hunger. In the example above, you would want to click on “little,” which means “small.” You will then get a chance to do another word the same way. You can play as long as you like and give as much rice as you like.

How does the FreeRice vocabulary program work?

FreeRice has a custom database containing thousands of words at varying degrees of difficulty. There are words appropriate for people just learning English and words that will challenge the most scholarly professors. In between are thousands of words for students of all ages, business people, homemakers, doctors, truck drivers, retired people… everyone!

FreeRice automatically adjusts to your level of vocabulary. It starts by giving you words at different levels of difficulty and then, based on how you do, assigns you an approximate starting level. You then determine a more exact level for yourself as you play. When you get a word wrong, you go to an easier level. When you get three words in a row right, you go to a harder level. This one-to-three ratio is best for keeping you at the “outer fringe” of your vocabulary, where learning can take place.

There are 60 levels in all, but it is rare for people to get above level 50.

. . ..

Who pays for the donated rice?

The rice is paid for by the sponsors whose names you see on the bottom of your vocabulary screen when you enter a correct answer. These sponsors support both learning (free vocabulary for everyone) and reducing hunger (free rice for the hungry). We thank these sponsors for their participation at FreeRice. For information about how you or your company can sponsor FreeRice, please email here.

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?

FreeRice is not sitting on a pile of rice―you are earning it 20 grains at a time. Here is how it works. When you play the game, sponsor banners appear on the bottom of your screen. The money generated by these banners is then used to buy the rice. So by playing, you generate the money that pays for the rice donated to hungry people.

I have a folder that I call "charity clicks". In it I have several that I do first thing everyday. It takes very little time. Hope others will do it on a regular basis as well.
Thanks to the other posters who included the Free Rice and Care2 sites. I've now added those to my daily list.

21. Don't feel bad
I had to Google to make sure there weren't any polar bears at the South Pole. I think a walrus would be a tad too formidable for even a polar bear to tackle. Now, baby seals on the other hand....

Bad childhood experience with this one mutt that used to chase me around a playground near my house when I was little. Kind of got over it when one of my ex-girlfriends had a dog, so I had to get along with her. I'm not really a pet person, but my think about it in the future. :patriot:

Sounds like a good cause. How many clicks does it take to feed one polar bear? I thought that they were pretty big animals. They look pretty big on the Discovery Channel anyway.

35. Can I add a question to yours? The polar bears are
Losing the ice gfloes that they need, as the ice is melting.

Shouldn't we be building some type of polar bear rafts for them?? (And I am not kidding, I amserious.)

I mean if you give a polar bear a canoe, that wouldn't work. I honestly don't know. I just admire them, and cannot fathom killing a beautiful animal of any kind.
