Holy Shit. Jon Stewert just ripped Scott Mcclellan a new one
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 10:35 PM by no limit
He would not let him get away with the point that the administration didn't do what they did intentionally and basically got him to agree that what the administration did in the lead up to the Iraq war was criminal.

Why are no main stream reporters asking any of the questions of Mcclellan that Jon Stewert, a fake reporter, just asked? They should be ashamed of themselves.

I hope that this is posted at crooks and liars shortly as everyone needs to see this.

I would love to see Mcclellan put under oath and get asked the same questions that Jon Stewert just asked him about the meetings that took place in the white house before the war to drive their propaganda campaign.

1. Well, Jon compared it to the difference between murder and manslaughter
and the mainstream hasn't asked these questions because they know they're accessories after the fact.

There are many like him to become the NEW IMPROVED DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

4. I'd say more forced Scotty to come face to face with his residual denial
Scotty is right that the cure is to return to genuine democracy, which requires open government. Where he's not quite right it he's still not willing to look squarely at the fact that his boss lied (not misrepresented, not any of the excuses, lied) to the people.

I have sympathy with Scott McClellan. The Republican Party these days is run as a cult, and it's really hard to break away from a cult, especially when you were one of the Dear Leader's favorites. I think he deserves credit for what he is doing. That said, he's still stuck partway in denial. And Jon would not let him stay stuck.

Jon, for all his insistence that he's a fake news reporter, is one of the best interviewers on TV today.

5. Jon got him to say that if the administration lied it would have been criminal
and scott could not dispute that the administration didn't lie. So he basically was forced to admit that what the administration did was criminal. Jon Stewert got everything he wanted out of him and left him no room to get around it.

13. As someone who lurked for two years before my 2004 signup
I'm not sure I can at all feel "new". I do however feel much less talkative than most posters ;)

More accurately I've never been a great typist, and this is complicated further by arthritis in my hands. In real life I'm a motormouth. But online, I'm the strong silent type. I figure I make up in quality for what I lack in quantity online, and vice versa offline :) )

27. why is he such a pussy with some guests, though? ESPECIALLY McBush.
hasn't the mean old, crazy old man been the most frequent guest on his show?

and it's ALWAYS egregious aholes that he treats so gingerly, like Mrs. Vader, for one.

he's nailed others most exquisitely, like Krystol, Hitchens, Wolf, but has been way too easy with many others.

I love Jon as much as anyone, but it's a fucking love fest whenever McCain is on, yet he seems to go for the throat for so many others.

7. It was the first interview with McC that really
put him on the spot. You could see through his facile self-congratulatory smile that he was cornered. It was also the first time I've heard an audience cheer for a question. Jon did good.

20. That's similar to my point that Obama shouldn't call Bush a "failure" because
Bush has dramatically succeeded at most of what he has set out to do. Most folks just don't realize what the real goals were. Look at Bush's successes:

Gas is $4.00 a gallon. This was priority #1 for those who installed him.
1.2 million Iraqis dead. That'll teach 'em for being from the same general quadrant of the world as Osama.
Environmental, safety, consumer protection, and worker protections gutted.
Trillions in tax cuts for the super-rich.
Huge upward transfers of income from the poor to the rich.
The Constitution is now just toilet paper in the White House crapper.

Bush has earned the title of Republican Hero for these accomplishments.

23. Olbermann got Scott to rake the Bush administration over the coals too.
Pretty much got him to say that Bush used 9/11 to get his Middle East democracy agenda passed with the Iraq War authorization.

25. Missing the point.
I understand the desire to paint the run up to war as Bush propaganda. But to do so leaves us very vulnerable to the same thing in the future. You don't need to think of Bush as evil (I know a tough sell around here). If you take him at his word you can learn much more about what to look out for in the future.

Bush admin logic here, not mine:

#1 We were attacked by Islamic Terrorists on 9/11.
#2 Reasons for Islamic Terrorism is because the Middle East is run by dictators and the people are oppressed.
#3 If we could help make the Middle East governments democratic no more terrorist threat.
#4 Iraq is run by a bad dictator and we already have troops there.
#5 Some evidence that Hussein wasn't WMD.
#6 Take out Hussein and start Democracy in Iraq and it will be a model Government for the Middle East.
#7 The world will be a peaceful place with no more islamic terrorists.

So no conspiracy theories this is just what Bush has said publicly. Can we now point the holes in this absurd logic? If we can we know what to be on guard for later and not just chalk it up to Bush being evil.
