Manteca Car Theft Victim Uses Cell Phone to Outwit Thieves

MANTECA, CA - A Manteca woman's quick thinking -- coupled with a pair of dumb thieves -- helped cops recover a stolen car after the victim talked the crooks into selling the vehicle back via text-messaging.

Katherine Allen was stunned early Tuesday when she awoke to find her mother-in-law's 1991 Acura had been stolen from in front of Allen's home during the night, Allen said.

"I prayed and I asked the Lord what to do," Allen said. "You know, sometimes you just have to sit still and listen to that soft voice."

As luck would have it, that soft voice gave her an idea, albeit a longshot, for getting the car back. Realizing her mother-in-law had left her cell phone in the car, Allen began sending text messages to the phone in hopes that the thieves would respond.

After a few hours of texting, Allen even told the crooks she'd pay them $400 to buy the car back. Within 10 minutes of the offer, the thieves called back to set up the deal.

Good refried beans have a little manteca added in before the beans are grilled. That's the best way to make refried beans. But you won't find refried beans in a regular restaurant made like that. You have to go to one of the little neighborhood taquerias to get good refried beans with manteca.
