Silly question: Can you guess someones party based on looks?
Taking a break from serious GD-P...

There was a time, a generation or so ago, when liberal folks tended to look/dress/act a certain way that suggested to the world that they had more progressive values. Yea, I wore Birkenstocks. The flip side could be said for conservatives. Maybe they looked something like this:

Dana Carvy as the Church Lady

These days, I don't think it is possible to stereotype anymore. What do you think? Do you still run into people that "look" conservative but are actually very progressive? Or the reverse?

2. You *can* judge a party based on the looks
that they give you when they read your CHIMPEACH T-shirt.

3. yes
Black = democrat
Southern white = republican
flamboyantly gay = democrat

old, white, rural, married = republican
young, urban, single = democrat

Its not 100% true, but there is a strong correlation between demographics and voting.

7. "old, white, rural, married = republican"
ROFL!!!!

I am old, white, married and live in a rural area

and all my old white married friends are Dems too

not to say there aren't plenty of repukes around here, but you can spot them a mile away.

they're the ones who live in a podunk town in the middle of nowhere and think they're better than everyone else

13. I didn't say it was 100% true
But if you are in your 50s, white, married and live in a small town you are more likely to be republican than a democrat.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/H/00/epolls.0.html

VOTE BY RACE AND GENDER TOTAL Democrat Republican
White Men (36%) 38% 60%
White Women (41%) 45% 54%

VOTE BY AGE TOTAL Democrat Republican
18-29 (16%) 55% 44%
30-44 (29%) 47% 51%
45-59 (30%) 49% 49%
60 and Older (25%) 46% 53%

ARE YOU MARRIED? TOTAL Democrat Republican
Yes (63%) 43% 56%
No (37%) 59% 39%

VOTE BY SIZE OF COMMUNITY TOTAL Democrat Republican
Urban (30%) 55% 43%
Suburban (46%) 48% 51%
Rural (24%) 44% 54%

Supposedly the fact that america is becoming less rural and more urban; with fewer traditional families (more singles and common law marriages) and a higher minority population is going to give the dems a long term advantage in politics.

5. I think you still can sometimes. Not ALL the time, but I know I can
have my TV muted, look at the screen and see a guest that I've never seen before, but I can guarantee he's a Pubie! Just put on cspan when congress is in session. Sure I know a lot of the House members, but nowhere close to ALL OG THEM, but I can tell what party they are with (90% of the time) just by their appearance. I always thought it was that the Pubies dress mostly like they're from the 50's and most of the time, their haircuts are from that era too.

10. No.
I learned that one standing on a streetcorner protesting the war.

I can't remember how many times, expecting an argument, I was approached by "Republicans" who told me what a filthy war criminal Bush was.

12. I can tell a republican in a minute
it's more than just appearance, but that does have a lot to do with it. They have an attitude about them. They. look down on others they consider not their equals and feel they are entitled to special attention, especially when out shopping on the weekends.

28. That's right.
Attitude is a better barometer to use than appearance to tell if someone may be republican or not.

You can easily tell who's who when people pass a homeless person. The Republicans are the ones who angrily shout "Get a job you loser!" Most Dems. would just ignore them at worst.

14. ID'ing a politician's party by looks is easy.
ID'ing voters, not quite as easy, but it's still a bit better than a 50/50 guess.

20. Definately better than 50/50
The coif, the eyes and the dress are pretty good indicators.

Spotting the progressive is far easier- but you can also spot the Republican- and you can spot the fundie, too.

Edited on Wed May-28-08 02:02 PM by RiverStone
Like, if I were to stereotype - they fit perfectly.

Except Laura has that weird deer-in-headlights smile that won't go away. I don't get that.

23. No, because if you could, Hillary would be
a Republican.

She looks, dresses, accessorizes, and sports hair color, style and makeup exactly like the Republican matrons of West Austin.

Dead Kennedy's, Bad Religion. His brother use to be in Evanescence. The guy was very anti-establishment when we were young. Now he's one the most staunch conservative persons you'd ever meet.
