aack, what is wrong with the world today

my son went to school with the kid that was arrested for murder
says he doesn't remember much about him, but that he was too smart for his own good
says parents owned Mooney Farms here in Chico, so I wonder why there was money issues or why on earth this kid thought killing someone would solve his problems

Sonoma County sheriff's officials investigate Wednesday at a residence near Schellville where a man was killed.

A 20-year-old Chico man was arrested Wednesday in the slaying of his grandfather, a longtime Sonoma-area man who died just hours shy of his 78th birthday.

Robert Ferris Deming was shot and killed at his Bonneau Road home near Schellville late Tuesday in what may have been a bid for money, though investigators were trying to pin down the motive Wednesday afternoon, Sonoma County Sheriff's Lt. Rob Giordano said.

Deming's grandson Sean Patrick Mooney was arrested Wednesday morning, suspected of shooting his grandfather in the back of the head with a shotgun at close range in what Giordano called a planned slaying.

He was being held without bail in Sonoma County Jail.

1. Remember the Menendez brothers? This reminds me of them.
Maybe a botched "armed robber" scenario.

3. I dunno. It looked like a creative defense strategy.
They had a really good attorney, Leslie Abramson. She also is known for perfecting the child abuse defense. But who knows, maybe they were abused. Still, they shot their parents repeatedly with shotguns, tried to make it look like a robbery, and then went on a spending spree.

4. If he was in ill health, could it have been a mercy killing
followed by panic? There's an outside chance of that.

But it was probably a kid with either untreated mental health or substance abuse issues.

Stories like this are sad.
