Should a "Recommend" automatically "kick" a post?
This would save hundreds of posts here, that essentially say "K&R" with no other content.

1. That would be nice but it might be a bit to code the change.
I think the SQL database uses the latest message timestamp to kick the thread- well the software does the kicking but you get the idea. The easiest way might be to have a REC create an invisible message with some preset topic and body (or whatever the DB requires for an entry) to use the existing functionality to the maximum extent and still give us the new feature.

18. Perhaps just use the REC to reset the timestamp to the current date/time?
That function already increments the "recommend" count and flags the individual user as unable to recommend again -- heck, what's one more line of code? And the new timestamp would automatically "float" the thread to the top of the stack!

(See how easy it is so long as I'm not the one who has to implement it? ;-) )

3. I'm not a big fan of the empty K&R posts...
I would prefer that people add to the conversation in order to keep the thread going rather than just recommending it.

9. Sometimes there is just nothing to say
or I've been at a loss for words. Like the other day when the news about Ted Kennedy started breaking. I saw a thread posted and I recommended it for others to see. I was the one of the first persons to hit the "recommend" button and then I went back to the OP to make a comment. I sat here staring at the screen for several minutes but I was just too stunned to say anything. After a few minutes I finally posted that sentiment just because. I had the same reaction when I saw that Sapphire_Blue had passed away.

So, sometimes all I can do is "recommend" a post and hope it makes it the greatest page for others to see. I admit that there are times when I have absolutely nothing of substance to say because either the OP says it all or I'm just at a loss for words.

8. Well, as long as an individual can only "kick" a post once...
If the only thing keeping a post at top is two individuals creating an endless "staircase" of posts bickering about some minutiae, let it sink to the bottom. The two arguing know how to find it.
