I just got an assassination threat in an email!
I'm not taking it seriously, but it is strange to get something like this in an email. I wonder who I should turn it in to? Look at this:

From: "FARC Network" <[email protected]>Add sender to Contacts To: [email protected] Alert !!!

This is Puzzo Regional head of the FARC NETWORK. I wish to let you
know that i have been paid by a client to assassinate you at
convenience, and i have signed a contract for this yesterday. I have
never met you before, but they gave me the full description of your
identity and contact which my boys have used to trace you.

The reason why they want you Dead was not disclosed to me as i was not
allowed to know, but you are now not better that the dead ok.

My GUYS are now constantly watching you, they are following everywhere
they are waiting for my instruction to terminate you and they will strike at
convenience.

THIS IS MY MESSAGE-
LISTEN VERY WELL !!!, the Police cannot do much to help you and don't
even bother to inform them cos it will only worsen and complicate things
because you are being watched, any such attempt is very risky cause
you will push us to terminate your life without option.

Note****** Your calls are not still safe.

FARC NETWORK!!!

3. turn it in to the feds
stupid side note, if I were paid to kill someone, I wouldnt give them any heads up and warn them. it takes the "surprise" factor out of play.

I would def turn it over to the feds. Maybe it could be traced back to someone who was trying to scare you.

6. I found this cached on google...
"This is an increasingly common e-mail scam. They don't know who you are, nor are they planning to assassinate you. It's just somebody in Nigeria or something trying to extort money from you.

FARC is a revolutionary group in Colombia. They would not be carrying out international assassinations anyway."

FWIW anyway...

8. This is a scam email
I got one of these about two years ago

They are trying to extort money from you. If you respond, you will get an email back with an offer to save your life by sending a payment to them.

It's kinda like the Nigerian Money scams but they just try to scare th shit out of you in order to get the money instead of offering you a job opportunity.

they're after a bunch of other people too. :)

It's a stupid stupid scam. They're probably checking to see if your email is active so you can get more miracle penis enlargement email ads. Or they're flooding these threats to annoy the FBI.

FARC is a real group, a guerrilla organization in Colombia. I seriously doubt if they're randomly going after total strangers.

16. Email Properties will reveal the ip of the sender
By looking at the properties of your email...you can identify the sender's ip address...You can then use a variety of web sites to show you the location of the sender...

You should look at the properties and then cut and paste them into notepad...so you can print them...before reporting it to the authorities. I do not believe that most average intake police officers..are aware of how to trace emails... So you may want to help them with this piece.

Plus it may just set your mind at ease...to see that the sender is really in Nigeria...or somewhere else.

FYI forwarding the email...will lose the original trail... - Only the original properties will show you the sender's ip...

Forwarding these emails is easy, copy/paste the "properties" - my emails say "details, not properties" into the forward to email.

You can get your local FBI email address at the www.FBI.gov website, FYI for further reference.

25. I got a different assasination email
This one was from a "Muslim extremist" who warned me not to run as he and his people were all around me like "the air and the darkness."

Also... "You are free to contact the police if you wish, but be informed that we already have trained young boys and girls, men and women who are willing to axplode with explosive at anytime and anywhere, and other new methods which have not been practicalised."

I figured it was just some sort of campaign started by some stupid right-winger to drum up anti-Muslim sentiment.

34. I don't think yours has right-wing origins, here's why
The bad spelling and childish sentence structure would seem to point to our freeperish friends. However, 'practicalised' is not only NOT a word, but it's spelled with an 's' at the end rather than the expected 'z'. That's a British English trait, used by most everyone who acquires their English spelling skills in large parts of Asia, Europe and Africa. Where we in America use a 'z' in words ending with '-ized', British English often puts an 's'.

Our right-wingers aren't clever enough to spell 'moron' correctly, they're very unlikely to think of using European spelling in a made up word just to confuse others as to their origin.

26. 419 Death Threat Spam
419 Death Threat Spam
Tuesday, 08 May 2007
A particularly despicable scam is circulating this week. It involves a Spam email that contains a "death threat" the sender claims to be a hit man hired to kill you. In typical fashion the grammar and spelling are poor. This could indicate the authors are not skilled in the English language though it could also be an attempt to protect the guilty and obscure the trail of the actual perpetrator(s). If you happen to receive this Spam don't worry, just delete the message. They are using this method to validate targets for future scams and Spam. If you do respond you will become a validated target. You can also contact the IC3 in the United States at www.ic3.gov to file a formal complaint. The entire text of the Spam is as follows (compliments of Swa Frantzen @ ISC):

"Hello, I wish to let you know that i have been paid by a client to assasinate you at convenience, and i have signed a contract of $650,000 yesterday for this.I have never met you before, but they gave me the full description of your identity and contact, together with your photograph which my boys have used to trace you.

The reason why they want you Dead is not disclosed to me as i was not allowed to know, but you are now not better that the dead ok.

My BOYS are now contantly watching you, they are following you-home,office,everywhere.....,you go and they are waiting for my instruction to terminate you.And they will strike at convenience.

THIS IS MY MESSAGE-

LISTEN VERY WELL !!!!,the Police cannot do much to help you out in this right now because you are being watched, any such attempt is very risky cause you will push us to terminate your life without option. Your calls are not safe also.In fact you are traced. I have no business with you but at least i have cleared the way as a pro-,but you may have one chance to live again if you can contact me not latter that 24 hours after this mssage.

GOODLUCK!!!"

Got a scam email send them this back
Works as a great scare tatic I've gotten responses back from some of them with comments like you are a horrible evil man. They will have another email set up at the bottom send it to that with this:

Thanks for your email because now my friends who happen to be experts on cyber crime procedures are now compling this email and obtaining your real i.p address was hard but they finally did it and yes the mobile provider of your number has been contacted and they have assured us that your phone service will be disconnected and details of your activities have been handed over to your local police force along with your exact full name and address.

At this point you should evaluate my behaviour and make some phone calls. Call your solicitors you will need them.

One you've emailed them call the number they give you and say your the phone line provider and that you are disconnecting there service. The ammount of fun seeing the scammer squirm when they email you back is funny
