Has anyone seen the documentary film "Escape from Suburbia"?
.... I caught it last night on Sundance....It's a must see. It's about the consequences of suburban sprawl in the era of peak oil, global warming and high gas prices....and it's a little bit apocalyptic. But it's also hopeful in that it highlights a lot of people taking these things seriously and doing something about them. But a lot of the things they "predicted" in the film, like $3.50-$4 gas becoming a nightmare for people in places like the LA area who have 60-mile commutes, have already come true. :scared:

Anyway, here's some more info and a link from the Sundance Channel website.

As part of THE GREEN, Sundance Channel presents a series of documentary films focusing on timely and pressing environmental issues of the day.

Half a century ago, suburbia was hailed as the solution to urban decay. Now, in the light of diminishing oil supplies, economic woes and unsustainable lifestyles, many concerned citizens are rethinking their options. In the second part of a projected documentary trilogy, filmmaker Greg Green follows the journeys of people who alter their lives in light of our addiction to fossil fuels. One family moves to a Canadian ecovillage; another couple leaves New York to till the land, and a third reworks suburbia by making it green and sustainable.

haven't seen it yet, Escape from suburbia is to be released on DVD in July.

This provocative documentary, a regular on the film-festival circuit, examines the history of suburban life and the wisdom of this distinctly American way of life. A post-World War II concept, suburbia attracted droves of people, giving rise to sprawl and all that comes with it -- good and bad. How has the environment been affected by this lifestyle, and is it sustainable? Canadian director Gregory Greene dares to ask all the tough questions.

Not rated. This movie has not been rated by the MPAA.

Length:
90 minutes
