Democrats hit GOP on soaring gas prices
Democrats hit GOP on soaring gas prices

Democrats used their weekly radio address Saturday to hammer the Bush administration and congressional Republicans on the skyrocketing gas prices while touting their plan to repeal billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil companies.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) was picked to deliver the message to American households as Democrats and Republicans are continuing to seek to blame each other for the cost at the pump, an issue that will undoubtedly play a large role in the fall election.

When President Bush took office in 2001, Stabenow said, gas cost $1.50 a gallon, a price which has shot up to more than $3.70 for regular gas and $4 for premium in her home state.

She called the record prices all over the country “a crisis for every American family” that has led to higher grocery prices, home-heating bills, and financial pressure for small businesses struggling to stay afloat.

“Enough is enough,” Stabenow said.

Congressional Democrats’ energy package, unveiled earlier this week, would repeal billions of dollars in tax breaks for oil companies, force them to invest some of their profits in renewable energy or pay a price for refusing to do so, attempt to rein in OPEC manipulations of the market and increase the nation’s oil supply by temporarily halting deposits to the federal Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

1. A release from the SOR...
May well be the shock treatment the over-speculated oil market needs, before it becomes a full-blown and dangerous bubble market.

2. As well they should,
the Dem's have an energy policy that I think is pretty good but yet the Reptilians keep bringing up their 1920 solution to this 2008 problem, i.e, more drilling, more production of this finite resource..

3. Before the last
Interest rate decrease, economists were saying that FED could lower the price of oil by "NOT" having another decrease on interest rates. By NOT decreasing the rates, they said the dollar would gain ground and oil would drop in price. Needless to say the FED went ahead and lowered rates again, and the price of oil, which had been going down, shot back up to record highs!

We all know who the Bush administration is helping these day, and it's not the average American, but the big oil corporations, investors, and all his buddies who have been pulling the strings since Bush got elected. This may be there last big chance to rake in millions, maybe even billions before Bush leaves office! They are all a bunch of crooks that need to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!

5. I wonder if republicans will get on their knees
around late September, and plead with the oil companies to lower the prices?
