It's time to turn our attention to McCain. Let's list some of his finer accomplishments and talents
I will start with his temper:

"In a front page article and separate editorial Sunday, The Arizona Republic said it wanted the nation to know about the "volcanic" temper McCain has unleashed on several top state officials.

Those who have been on the receiving end of a McCain uproar include Republican Gov. Jane Hull, former Republican Gov. Rose Mofford and former Democratic Mayor Paul Johnson of Phoenix. "

19. Here's another:
One of the phony stories McCain likes telling to buff up his "hero" image is that of the Vietnamese peasants who pulled him out of the lake he landed in after ejecting from his bomber and beat and stabbed him.

Here is a picture of him embracing one of those peasants. Does he just like embracing everybody he comes in contact with, including one of those "gooks" he claims to hate so much, or is he simply full of shit?

4. Keating Five.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

"Minimally Involved" still means "didn't say, whoa, this is wrong."

So, he can squirm out of it, they can point at the Democrats that were involved, but none of the other 4 members of the K5 are running for president, so it's immaterial.

7. This country's younger voters need to know that story, minus the "minimally involved" spin.
And every bit of evidence, as well, that McCain did not reform himself after that scandal. I hope the DNC's oppo research desk is in full battle mode for the election season.

9. Exactly.
He doesn't get to hide from it.

His involvement, tacit support, whatever, is a disqualifier for office. If his constituents in Arizona don't care about it, that's one thing. But trying to be President, in a time where the economy isn't exactly awesome, in no small part due to banking problems?

We can't let that fly.

18. The FIRST, but hardly the last time, he's pled pure naivete.
He stated in his own autobiography that until it was pointed out to him, he saw nothing wrong and no possible conflict of interest from traveling to DC on Charles Keating's private jet to meet with Mr. Keating about banking legislation.

:wow: That, to me, is monumentally ognorant--I was 15 at the time and could have told him!

Too stupid/naive/ignorant to be a President.

10. There has to be a good sound bite or slogan in this, somewhere.
The guy dumped his disabled wife for the hot, rich, politically connected blond. Every staunch, Christian Republican must be called out on this and asked to defend the man or reject him. Period.

6. Mc Shame crashed at least 3 planes before going to 'nam.
+ the one he lost over N.Vietnam. Great for the areospace industry.
He was the son and grandson of admirals. Very close to being the anchorman of his class at the USNA.
Was Involved in the Forestall incident where 132 sailors lost their lives. He lost another airplane there, maybe someone should ask him what a wet start is.
We all know that the boss' son can be a screw-up and there will be nothing done

His reliance on totems and irrational behavior is indicative of something sinister.

I started a thread, and other DUers had some really good explanations for this phenomenon, here.

37. Not as bad as you would think
I don't think this would make much of an issue, athletes, lawyers, and anyone else involved in a profession that has an element of direct competition like politics often have their funny rituals they do right before game time. This is a molehill compared to the mountains McSame has made already.

12. John McCain Hypocrite
“Hypocrisy, my friends, is the most obvious of political sins — and the people will punish it,” John McCain

John McCain Hypocrite
by Doug Ireland

John McCain, the media's darling, has found a clever way around his own campaign finance reform law to take big corporate bucks in furtherance of his political ambitions while carrying water for the corporate mammoth providing the dough. But the national press is ignoring the story.

The Associated Press first ran the story of John McCain's odorous but lucrative Senatorial service to the communications giant Cablevision on the afternoon of March 7. But, while some local papers in McCain's home state (like the East Valley Tribune) have run the story, nothing has as yet made it into the print editions of the New York Times, the L.A. Times, the Washington Post, or any of the half-dozen other big city dailies I checked (although, if one searches the hundreds of AP stories available on the Post's website on its Politics page by clicking on "Latest Wire Reports," one can find it there--but how many readers would bother to do that?) One notable exception: the Kansas City Star.

Here's what the AP's investigation found:

McCain repeatedly intervened on behalf of a policy Cablevision favored -- one which "congressional and private studies conclude could make cable more expensive" -- while his chief political adviser, Rick Davis (who's masterminding McCain's probable '08 presidential rerun) solicited $200,000 in contributions from Cablevision to an institute that promotes McCain and pays Davis a $110,000 annual salary.

The Reform Institute was set up to promote McCain and his issues--especially campaign finance reform, embodied in the famous McCain-Feingold law. This Institute is "a tax-exempt group that touts McCain's views and has showcased him at events since his unsuccessful 2000 presidential campaign," and it "often uses the senator's name in press releases and fund-raising letters and includes him at press conferences," the AP says. And, of course, it provides a cushy sinecure with no heavy lifting for McCain's main man, Davis, as he prepares the pontificating Senator's next presidential run. Cablevision's contributions account for a whopping 15% of the Institute's budget.

Edited on Sat May-10-08 01:10 PM by rhett o rick
In 2000 when he had the nerve to challenge Bush for the repuke nomination, Karl Rove, allegedly, launched a merciless hate campaign against McSame. It worked and Bush/Rove humiliated him.

How did the tough McShame handle it? He cried like a baby and begged Bush/Rove to forgive him for ever thinking he could challenge them.

36. After promoting campaign finance reform did several hypocritcal end runs around it.
He formed a 501(c) to promote him for this year's election. It employed several of his campaign staff and lobbyists. It received funding from several corps that he was working on legislation for. Cablevision (mentioned earlier in this thread) contributed $200,000 to his 501(c).

Used and is still using his wife's corporate jet for campaign purposes but not reimbursing it's use as a charter plane. Said he would not tap into his wife's wealth for his campaign but is clearly doing so by using this corporate jet.

Signed up for public financing during the primary. Used the promise of public financing to secure a loan for the campaign. It also allowed him to qualify for several primary ballots. He immediately broke the rules and went over spending limits. He's now trying to back out of public financing.

He accepted campaign contributions from non-citizens since they threw a fund raiser for him overseas.

He is able to get away with these ethically questionable and illegal activities because the Repugs have blocked the nomination of commissioners to the FEC and they don't have a quorum.
