Double degreed engineer here who can not find a job in Arizona. I am talking real job, not contract. You know the one with benefits.

3. and southern New Mexico too
DOE and their vendors are hiring like crazy down here in Nowhere, NM at two separate locations no less!

Hobbs NM is right in the center of the action (30 minute commute to either site with company paid buses too!)

if you love the desert, check it out. but we got out of AZ in 2006 and were able to sell our house quickly for top $$$, that's not so much the case now eh?

good luck!

My son-in-law is majoring in engineering at NMSU. They are moving to Los Alamos for the summer for an internship there.

tell him to check out this company.

http://www.wgint.com/careers/

but it would be pretty boring for young people, not much culture or nightlife around here. but if they like the outdoors it's a nice place with a low cost of living

edit to add, here's their listing for new grads

8. Fucking Outsourcing To Tiny-Wage Countries
We engineers can thank Bush, Clintons, Bush, and many in Congress for that. Shame on them.

Boston seems to have a reasonable number of engineering jobs open, but it ain't great.

9. I don't suppose you have a BSEE?
If so, you may look into working in California. My friend (from Texas) was offered such a sweet deal he couldn't turn it down. Considering that BSEE's are in demand here in Texas as well that means it was a very sweet deal indeed.

13. BSEE but I work on the systems side now..
Contracts to hire positions are the new, and very abused, trial periods. My last employer only hired via contracts fortunatly my current one hires straight up....

16. What (social) networking groups do you belong to?
How active are you in your local Unix User Group or Linux User Group? Most jobs really are found (and won) through networking contacts.

As for Unix skills, several of the Beltway Bandits were looking for people down around Ft. Huachuca area. Might check that out.

18. You might consider joining in
Especially to your local groups. Many jobs never get posted to the boards, especially to smaller companies - they prefer using personal contacts/references. The only way to be noticed is to make yourself available to be noticed. The contacts are good, plus you are keeping your skill set sharp.
