Two women paid to gather signatures for a Cincinnati ballot initiative last year are now accused of falsifying petitions in an unsuccessful effort to repeal the city's gay-rights ordinance.
A gay-rights group upset with the falsification is angry that state Rep. Tom Brinkman or another leader of Equal Rights Not Special Rights wasn't charged as well. They believe the alleged fraud goes beyond the two women.
Lois Mingo, 47, of St. Bernard, and Precilla Ward, 32, of Winton Place, were indicted Thursday by a Hamilton County grand jury after a seven-month investigation.
They were each charged with felony election falsification, according to court documents. Ward was also indicted on a charge of writing a false signature on an election document.
