Inflation... oh lovely inflation
so I went to visit parents in Mexico City and was gone for TEN days.

So I come back... and go to the supermarket to get something for lunch today.

I was intending to get chicken... until I got the sticker shock of my life

You see... fifteen days ago, the last time I bought any of it, breast pieces were running oh around six bucks... yesterday they ranged anywhere from 11.50 to 13.00, so round numbers twelve

That... in case you are math impaired is 100% in two weeks...

Impressive...

Of course we were also greeted by the four bucks a gallon gas...

When will people finally say ENOUGH!

1. that's why we accept unemployment --- economists say 4% unemployment
is necessary to keep inflation down.

So, I agree with Barbara Ehrenreich... we OWE unemployed people a decent living, because they are saving our economy.

Maybe the only time we appreciate that is when inflation goes through the roof.

:(

Thank an unemployed person today.

2. our real unemployment rate
is somewhere in the 12%-14% range.

The government statistics on labor, inflation, and other measures have been politically manipulated so thoroughly and for so long as to be meaningless - they have little relationship to the realities in the economy.

6. You believe it is ONLY four percent? If you do... I've got a bridge
to sell... cheap too...

Like all other numbers it is heavily manipulated

Will give you a real example. My hubby was unemployed for close to a year after he left the navy, total. He NEVER was counted, since he never drew a check.

My brother in law lost his job as a technical writer, since he has never drawn unemployment, again he has never been counted.

How many like this two?

20. Why do you feel it necessary to treat me as dumb?
I told you what economists say.

You didn't really read my words, did you?

I may be poor, but goddammit, I'm no dumber than you are.

Take your goddamn bridge.... and.....

I'm so sick of compassion-impaired "progressives" who then wonder why so many of us aren't interested in the party anymore.

after that... you can accuse me all you want ok of not having compassion... since I believe my actions across my life speak louder than your charges ok.

By the way... I will spell it for you

I DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING TO CHANGE SINCE THE MEDIA AND OTHER POWER STRUCTURES HAVE MANIPULATED THE ELECTIONS TO THE POINT THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS NOT YOUR SALVATION OR MINE

and here is another shocker for you

I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT, I AM AN INDIE AND IT HAS ALL TO DO WITH THE PARTY AND THE VOTES IN BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL LEGISLATURES.

Is this clear enough for you or do I need to write it more clearly?

I don't need ugly shit like this.

Good bye, dear "progressive".

But whatever, go ahead and block me... since obviously I called you stupid for you writing that poverty was good and that we had a 4% poverty rate

Wasn't the only one who called you on it... COULD THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR POST?

or that our poverty rate is at 4%.

I know this is a personal issue for all of us. Everyone is rightfully on edge. Sometimes we just need to slow down and remember we are on the same side here.

31. bobbolink didn't say unemployment was 4%.
bobbolink said that economists think unemployment needs to be at least 4% to keep inflation down.

12. As others said
The unemployment is much higher- I would go higher than 20%, because as you and I know, when you are poor, you stop existing, both on paper and in people's eyes.

The 4% unemployment talking point is a givaway to businesses. I remember when unemployment numbers plunged during part of Clinton's term- my bosses were panicking!

"We don't dare fire people or withhold benefits! We might not be able to replace them cheaply!"

It's all about what's good for the corps. Forget the people...and the poor? There are no poor in America! Only people too lazy to work!:sarcasm:

22. It wasn't a "talking point" would YOU care to reread what I said?
Our system demands AT LEAST 4% unemployment to keep inflation down.

Since inflation is UP, obviously MORE PEOPLE ARE UNEMPLOYED.

Please, read what I said, instead of trying to put me down.

34. *Sigh*
The 4% thing is BS, that's my point. And it IS a talking point of the rich. There is no good reason we can't have 100% employment other than the fact that they enjoy having that many of us out of the workforce to scare the rest into sacrificing more to stay employed.

Inflation is based on how much currency is available vs. goods and services available. That should be Congress' job to regulate, but they allow the Federal Reserve to do it instead, which is why it's running out of control. Never let private bankers regulate an economy- they'll only do it in a way that benefits them.

5. And don't forget those of us who don't eat with these prices!
Remember those of us who CAN'T cut back on something else in order to eat!

Remember those of us who, before the prices rose, were having to choose between eating and heating.

10. They will say "enough!" when it's too late
When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

13. That reminds me of the other event of the trip yesterday
We went through security in Mexico City (For the record, after 9-11 they hired the former head of security at Ben Gurion Airport, for some reason I trust them far more than TSA..). and then they checked our hand luggage AGAIN before we boarded our plane to Dallas

For the record when I was a kid I used to fly to Nashville for medical treatment through Dallas and you went through Immigration and customs and checked your luggage through... and staid all this time through the sterile area of the airport.

Not yesterday... we went OUT and had to GO THROUGH TSA again... which might have cost people their flights. FORTUNATELY ours was delayed, so we even had time for a leisurely lunch.

Nope I wasn't scared... which is the OBJECTIVE of that crap. I was severely annoyed, and so was my sis. my brother in law and my three and five year old nephews.

This is the HEIGHT of stupidity... I mean I already went THROUGH security TWICE... oh I forgot, they didn't make me remove shoes in Mexico City... perhaps that is the reason we had to go through that crap AGAIN.... :sarcasm:

And they have still to check the belly of the planes carefully...
