This message is being sent to the university community to let you know that an event happened this morning that has now been resolved.
A warning to evacuate the Animal Resources Center in the xxxx Building was received earlier today. The affected area was immediately secured by the university police and employees left the area. A careful search was made, nothing was found and employees returned to work. There is no reason to believe that this was a real threat, but we take seriously all threats to the security of our campus and its employees and students.
We will continue to observe heightened security on all areas of the campus. This pisses me off no end. I have had to be evacuated several times. Did these people not realize that our lab developed a way to deliver persantine which was a big improvement over the drug that eventually metabolized into persantine? Did they not know that our lab developed a coating that would eliminate clots on indwelling catheters? We did that and much, much more. Bombs and scares seemed to be the answer.
You know the worst thing? One time during a bomb scare that we knew nothing about had our lab targeted. Nobody told us. I asked the officer who was poking around the lab if there was a bomb threat. He said, "Yeah. In here." I asked when the bomb was supposed to go off? He said, "Five minutes". We high tailed it out and went to the administration office. It turned out that our chairman knew - everybody knew but us. In fact, the entire building had been evacuated except for our floor. How do you suppose that made us feel?
It used to be a noble profession to be a research scientist. Now it's apparently some kind of target for anti-intellectuals to drag down our IQ's.
