Ok history buffs, was the olympic games known as the games of good will or

something like that before Ted Turner took the name in 2001? Seems to me that the olympics were known as the good will games back in the 60's and 70's. Just having one of those dumb arguments with a repubilcon butt kisser who's is complaining about olympics being used as a political tool. Never mind the fact that he would be crying boycott had Iran been the chosen place for the summer games.

1. The Goodwill Games are different

I think they still have them. The Olympics have always been the Olympics, the first modern Olympics was in 1896.

3. I know all of that stuff I just remember after the 1968 olympics that they were calling the olympics

the good will games in honor of those that the terrorists murdered. I'm not a fan of sports of any kind to be honest but my mom and dad were when it came to the olympics.

the olympics have always been the olympics- they were NOT called the "goodwill games". the goodwill games came about as an alternate after the u.s. and others pulled out of the moscow olympics over afghanistan.

6. Ok 72, all I know is hearing the term long before Ted Turner

started the good will games. I was more interested in what was going on in the political world. I just remember the term Good Will maybe it was the ambassadors of good will. Heck so much has happened since.

2. correct. Ted Turner has nothing to do with the Olympics. and the Olympics go back to early Greek

sometime BC. Ted Turner invented the Goodwill Games back in either 80 or 84 in response to the US boycott of the Moscow summer Olympics or the boycott by the Russians in 84, I can't remember which.
